Marietta chiropractor marks 25 years of business

MARIETTA — Changing people’s minds about chiropractic care and its benefits is what got Dr. Jeffrey Dexter interested in opening his own practice in 1993.

Providing an integrated practice that incorporates chiropractic medicine, physical therapy, massage therapy and focus on patient care is part of what has kept Dexter’s practice — Marietta Health and Wellness — going strong some 25 years later.

“We celebrate every year with patient appreciation day and this year it was brought to my attention that this is my 25th year in practice in Marietta,” Dexter said. “First my practice was next door and then we moved over here. The name changed from Dexter Chiropractic to Marietta Health and Wellness in 2010 when we incorporated the multi-disciplinary setting.”

Dexter is a 1984 graduate of Warren High School, received his undergraduate degree from Ohio University and received a Doctorate in Chiropractic from Life College of Chiropractic in Atlanta, Ga., in May 1991.

“I’ve always been drawn back to the area of Marietta, it’s been a great place to raise a family. My wife is also a graduate of Warren and both of our families are from here,” Dexter said, explaining that getting married and starting a practice around the same time took a lot of help from the family and community. “I have three children and having our parents nearby always made things simpler.”

The staff at Marietta Health and Wellness is also like a family, with many of them having worked for Dexter for several years.

“I’ve been here 13 years and I just love helping the patients and getting them to feeling better…Dr. Dexter is a really good guy and we’re a tight-knit, family-oriented practice,” said Noelle Long, of Marietta, who serves as office manager and a patient liaison.

The other employees include Lindsay Ross, a massage therapist; Matthew Krason, physical therapist; Kevin Knapp, physical therapy assistant; Skyler Fouss, athletic trainer; and Chris Scyocn, a licensed massage therapist.

“We have a large variety of patients, from elderly to young. I’m also the chiropractor for Marietta College athletics,” Dexter said. “Now I’m even seeing different generations from the same families.”

Williamstown resident Tracy Reifer started seeing Dexter on the recommendation of her husband, Mike.

“I’ve been seeing him about 15 years but I was very reluctant to go because I had a bad experience with chiropractic before,” Tracy said. “I started having neck issues and just recently I had a problem with my lower back. Dr. Dexter was able to see me on a Saturday for an emergency situation.”

Typical hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon. The practice is welcoming new patients.

“He’s a great doctor and a great person. I have recommended him to several people,” Reifer said. “He’s absolutely changed my mind about chiropractic.”
