PARKERSBURG — Stoked Coffee has plenty of customers who make the drive from Parkersburg to Marietta to enjoy its Stoked Mocha, Speedy Turtle, Frozen Buckeye and more.

Soon, they won’t have as far to travel.

The business, which opened 10 years ago in Marietta, is adding a Parkersburg location. Renovations are under way at the former Rax building, 1606 Blizzard Drive, with a goal of opening in August.

“We do have a lot of customers that ask for us to come to Parkersburg on a regular basis,” said Valerie Huck, a co-owner of the business, located at 302 Pike St., Marietta.

Stoked managing partner Travis Christman said expansion to Parkersburg has been considered off and on for several years. The size and structure of the building, its location on a well-traveled road and proximity to Parkersburg South High School made it the right choice, he said.

“Parkersburg was always the target because we have so many customers that come up to Marietta from Parkersburg,” Christman said. “We wanted to be on a main thoroughfare.”

The building went on the market last year after Rax closed in late 2015 and the owner reopened it for about five weeks as Oliver’s Roast Beef.

The goal of Stoked in Marietta and soon in Parkersburg is “to bring world-class coffee to our local community,” Christman said.

“We want to provide an affordable luxury product,” he said.

Stoked’s products are made with the “highest-quality, select-grade beans,” which are hand-roasted in small batches, Christman said. Every drink is custom made to order.

“We literally can make thousands of different drinks,” Christman said.

“We are known for our frozen drinks, frozen coffees,” he said. “Our signature drink is the Stoked Mocha, and it comes in hot, iced or frozen.”

Christman said he expects the new Stoked location to employ 12 to 15 people, both full- and part-time.
