Meggan Hostuttler recognized by Highmark Health

PARKERSBURG – Harrisville resident Meggan Hostuttler was recognized this spring with a Jefferson Award for Public Service by the Highmark Health organization.

The awards were presented to Highmark employees for their volunteer work and included a monetary contribution to the nonprofit organization of their choice.

Hostuttler, who works at Highmark West Virginia in Parkersburg, has worked to celebrate the life of her late brother, Matthew, who suffered from stage IV liver cancer. In honor of him, she ran the 2015 New York City Marathon with the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research.

For several years, Hostuttler has also volunteered her time to community health initiatives and children’s programs, including an adult women’s softball league that empowers women to get moving, local food drives, youth basketball leagues and the promotion of safe after-school programs for physical fitness through the West Virginia Legislature. These fitness programs are driven by her passion to share her own fitness journey, having lost 90 pounds through nutrition and exercise.

Hostuttler and her youngest son, Jaxson, have also created an annual Blessing Bag Project, through which they have donated more than 200 bags filled with hats, gloves, socks, snacks and hygiene supplies to homeless shelters and underprivileged children.

Highmark Health is one of 25 U.S. organizations that serve as Jefferson Awards Champions, bringing to the workplace the highest honor for public service, established more than four decades ago by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and other public figures.
