Tonya’s Country Kitchen serves up a taste of home
MARIETTA – A new restaurant opened on Front Street.
Tonya’s Country Kitchen opened Monday to numerous patrons looking for homemade meals.
With daily specials that include favorites like meatloaf, spaghetti and cheesy omelets, Tonya’s opens at 6 a.m. every day and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Owner Tonya Pelphry of Marietta said has always wanted to open a restaurant.
“It’s always been my dream to open a restaurant, and when I came down to see the place I fell in love with it,” said Pelphry. “I’m 45, and I didn’t want to be 80 and say I never tried.”
The storefront, which has housed other restaurants over the years, is near The Cook’s Shop, Simple Pleasures and Over the Moon Pizzeria.
“It’s all home-cooked food, and I do all of it myself; the baked steak, meat loaf, spaghetti sauce and homemade noodles,” Pelphry said.
Breakfast includes omelets. Breakfast is served all day and the menu includes BLTs, jumbo fried hot dogs, patty melts, pork chops, baked spaghetti and roast beef for lunch and dinner.
The restaurant features daily specials and homemade pies and desserts.
“My goal was to do about 50 meals a day, and I knew I could do about 100 or 200,” Pelphry said. “But it’s been so busy, and it’s been amazing.”
“My mom was a good cook, and I always just watched her,” Pelphry said, describing how when her children got older, she found herself wanting to cook for big groups again. “I don’t know how to cook for just two people.”
Tonya’s Country Kitchen is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The restaurant is offering in-town deliveries with a minimum order of $15 and deliveries out of Marietta city limits for a $50 minimum order.
