An open house to celebrate Sherwood Stewart’s 90th birthday will be held from 2-4 p.m. today at the Jane Lew Volunteer Fire Department.

He and his wife, Reta Frymier Stewart, are natives of Ritchie and Gilmer Counties. He is the son of the late Robbie and Gladys Stewart of Ritchie County. He has one living sister, Norma Stewart of Harrisville.

He worked in the oil and gas industry until he was 80 years old. He retired twice – once from what was the Hope Gas Company and later as the state supervisor of oil and gas for the State of West Virginia.

He was the Jane Lew fire chief and spent years volunteering and training. He is an active member of the Knights of Pythias lodge.

He has five children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
