Judge calls for lost ballots to be counted in city election
FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) — A circuit judge in West Virginia has called for 57 lost ballots to be counted toward a city council election.
The Exponent Telegram reports Circuit Court Judge Patrick Wilson decertified the Fairmont City Council election on Wednesday to allow the votes to be counted. Marion County officials in early December found the uncounted ballots, which all came from one voting machine at a Fairmont high school. The votes will impact two council seat races that ended in a tie.
Wilson said during the Wednesday hearing with the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office that there was no evidence of fraud or other illegal activity surrounding the lost ballots. County Administrator Kris Cinalli has said the ballots were likely lost due to a mixture of human and mechanical error.
