Suspect caught in Braxton County

A deputy stands outside a mobile home on Nova Road in Mineral Wells where two people were shot this morning. A suspect remains at large, Sheriff Steve Stephens said. A suspect has been captured in Braxton County after a shooting this morning that left two people dead in Mineral Wells, Wood County Sheriff Steve Stephens said.

Jeff Sampson, 46, led State Police on a high-speed chase on Interstate 79, Stephens said.

“Considerable pursuit,” Stephens said.

Sampson is a person of interest in the shooting this morning at a trailer park on Nova Road, according to Stephens. One person was dead at the scene and the second died in surgery at Camden Clark Medical Center, Stephens said.

Further information was unavailable. The sheriff’s deaprtment is attempting to locate family, Stephens said.

Parkersburg South High and Mineral Wells Elementary schools have been released from lockdown, the sheriff said.

Sampson will be arraigned in Braxton County, Stephens said. Detectives from Wood County are processing information from the mobile home and the vehicle, he said.
