Beverly/Lowell victorious again

CHARLESTON, Ill. –Tyler Bradford threw a no-hitter for 5 2/3 innings before reaching his pitch limit, and Brett Gandee threw the final 1 1/3 innings as Beverly/Lowell Post 389/750 defeated Terre Haute Post 346 10-2 in the American Legion Baseball Great Lakes Regional Tournament Thursday at Eastern Illinois University.

Beverly/Lowell found itself in an early 2-0 hole after Bradford walked in two runs in the first inning.

Tate Engle quickly erased that deficit with a two-run double with two outs in the second inning to tie the score. Beverly/Lowell never looked back from there, adding two runs in the third, one apiece in the fourth and fifth, three in the sixth and one more in the third.

Drew Huffman was 2 for 4 with a double and a run-batted-in for Post 389/750, while Bradford drove in two runs.

Post 346 finished with one hit and three errors in the game, while Beverly/Lowell played errorless ball.

Beverly/Lowell now will play Danville Post 210, the last two remaining teams without a loss in the tournament, at 3:30 p.m. today. The winner will be in the driver’s seat.
