Wednesday’s Spring Sports Stars

TRACK

Class AAA, Region IV

ß Ripley’s Kyanah Baldwin, Allison Fields, Cassidy Miller and Tori Starcher won the 4×400 (4:09.22) and passed Hurricane for the regional title with a 118-116.5 victory. Fields won the 100 (12.66), 200 (26.30) and was runner-up to South’s Samara Nunn in the 400 (59.49 to 59.92). Starcher posted top times in the 800 (2:10.52), 1600 (5:10.94) and 3200 (10:57.31) while Miller was runner-up in the 300 hurdles (48.78).

ß Viking Olivia Miller, who was second in the high jump (5-2), bested Parkersburg’s Sophie Thompson to capture the pole vault (10-0 to 8-6).

ß The Big Reds’ shuttles team of Delaney Cox, Holly Chapman, Kendal Domenick and Emily Kupfner had a winning effort of 1:08.42.

ß Domenick (100 hurdles, 16.65), Big Red teammate Jaden Garner (discus, 100-11) and Parkersburg South’s Erin Williams (long jump, 16-1.25) registered runner-up finishes.

ß Parkersburg South’s Haden McConnell (110 hurdles, 15.27), Ripley’s Evan King (pole vault, 14 feet) along with Parkersburg’s Ethan Rutherford (400, 52.54) and Benjamin Lake (3200, 10:06.26) all had top of the podium finishes.

ß The Big Red boys finished a strong second behind champ Cabell Midland (165 to 135) thanks in part to runner-up showings from Tyler Moler (100, 11.39; 200, 22.78), Aaron Kupfner (110 hurdles, 15.29; 300 hurdles, 42.45), Anthony Bradford (800, 2:00.34) and Franklin Angelos (1600, 4:32.67)

SOFTBALL

ß Chloe Elliott fanned seven in a complete game four-hitter to help lead Ritchie County past Magnolia, 3-1, and secure the Class A, Region I, Section 2 championship — the Rebels’ first since 2015. Lillie Law, Chaslyn Jones and Ashley Davis each knocked in a run during head coach Dave Mossor’s 750th career victory.

ß Wahama’s Hannah Rose allowed singles to Kendall Bowen and Libby Hall as the White Falcon pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts during a 3-0 sectional title game victory versus Ravenswood.

BASEBALL

ß Avery Taylor had a walk-off RBI single to give Ritchie County a 4-3 sectional win versus St. Marys, which received two RBIs from Jack Hadley.

ß Winning pitcher Cullen Cutright (5.2 IP) drove in two runs and had 11 strikeouts, Trip Barkley had a three-run double and Trent Lynch finished 3 for 3 as Williamstown topped Parkersburg Catholic in six innings, 10-0, during sectional action. Ty Sturm had both of the Crusaders’ hits.

ß Trey Slider fired a complete game with no walks and 11 strikeouts to help lift Paden City to a 5-1 sectional triumph versus Tyler Consolidated. Clayton Thomas knocked in two runs for the Wildcats.

ß Danny Bush scattered eight hits and had four strikeouts in a complete game triumph as Roane County eliminated Herbert Hoover, 9-1, in sectional action. Bush joined teammates Jackson Mace, Josh Huffman and Colby Kinder with two hits apiece. Kinder had a pair of two-baggers and knocked in two runs.
