Southside Rumble III slated for Saturday

PARKERSBURG — It appears the 17-bout Dawghouse Promotions fight card is all but set for Saturday night’s Southside Rumble III, which will get underway at 7:30 p.m. inside the National Guard Armory.

The main event, a scheduled four-rounder, will feature local Parkersburg pro heavyweight Tim Farnsworth looking to up his record to 3-0 when he takes on Johnny McCallister of Follansbee.

“Tim’s fight is going to be an interesting one,” said promoter Mike Sheppard. “He (McCallister) did some MMA for me. He was a pretty good fighter. He’s pretty scary looking. I’ve never seen him box, but he got his pro license. On his Facebook, it looks like he’s working hard.

“Tim’s been working out a lot on his own and gets to the Dawghouse a couple days a week. He’s just excited and wants to get out there and do it.”

Three of the bouts will be for Dawghouse Promotions titles and that includes Parkersburg’s Shawn Miller looking to defend his amateur lightweight title versus Harley Watson.

“He lost to Harley in the championship of the Toughman and Harley is challenging him for his Dawghouse Promotions title, but it goes from one-minute rounds at the Toughman to two-minute rounds.

“Shawn’s been getting up and running early and doing stuff in the morning and he’ll meet me a couple days a week too before I leave the gym.”

Another title will be handed out in the women’s amateur super middleweight division. A pair of three-time Toughman champions will collide in ex-Big Red Tessi Davis and Haley Bishop of Bridgeport. The other belt up for grabs will be at middleweight where Devron Ford of Morgantown will do battle with Austin Sprouse of Parkersburg.

“They are all good matches,” Sheppard added. “There are no mismatches. It will be a good night.”

Both front row and second row tables are already sold out for the show, but $25 general admission tickets are currently on sale and should be available at the door.

Local Preston Wilson will be squaring off in a pro welterweight four-round boxing match against Antoine Elerson, a veteran of 28 fights.

“He’s real defensive and slick,” Sheppard said of Elerson while adding “I’m excited for Preston Wilson’s fight. He’s fighting a crafty veteran.”

Sheppard also said he’ll be interested to see how Tre Craycraft of Gallipolis fares in his second pro fight. He’s facing Texan Edwynn Jones in a middleweight showdown.

“Tre is fighting a guy from Houston who is another veteran. Tre was a three-time Toughman champion. He’s a pretty talented kid. His dad used to box.”

Doors are scheduled to open at 6:30 p.m.
