St. Marys 56, Cameron 49

MILL CREEK — St. Marys avenged an earlier season loss to Cameron here late Saturday night in the seventh annual WVHIT Division I championship game as the Blue Devils of head coach Howie Meeks rallied for a 56-49 victory.

“It’s just unbelievable. A whole lot different than it was a month ago,” said coach Meeks.

Addie Furr tallied 11 of her game-high 23 points in the opening stanza as the 10-8 Blue Devils, who play host to Parkersburg Catholic on Monday, led 15-10 after one.

Cameron, which dropped to 12-5, got into foul trouble late and couldn’t hold a 43-41 lead entering the final eight minutes.

Freshman Josey Moore helped the Blue Devils rally from a 28-25 halftime deficit by scoring eight of her 14 counters in the third quarter.

Furr drained 9 of 13 from the charity stripe as the Blue Devils had 18 foul shots in the fourth. Kylie Wright added nine points in the victory while Millie Kehrer had seven.

The Dragons were led by Madge Lucey’s 19-point effort. Kori Scott chipped in a dozen markers.

Parkersburg 65, Tecumseh 37

IRONTON, Ohio — Madi Mace led all scorers with 26 points as the Parkersburg High girls rolled to a 65-37 win over Tecumseh Saturday at Ironton High.

The Big Reds, ranked No. 1 in Class AAA, led 17-14 after a quarter but turned it on in the second, outscoring Tecumseh 23-11 for a 40-25 halftime lead. Maddi Leggett added 11 points and four steals for PHS, which visits Riverside at 1 p.m. Monday.

Tecumseh was led by Corinne Thomas’ nine points. Mae Matson added eight.

Parkersburg got seven points from Shay-Lee Kirby before the senior left the game with 2:58 remaining in the second quarter with an injury. Her status for Monday’s game was undetermined. Aleea Crites added seven points and three steals for the Big Reds.

Ritchie 57, Wirt 36

ELIZABETH — Abi Haught’s game-high 19 points helped lead Ritchie County past host Wirt County here Saturday evening, 57-36.

The 9-10 Rebels led just 27-25 at intermission, but used a 17-3 posting in the third quarter to take control. Ashley Davis added 12 markers in the victory.

Wirt County, which dropped to 8-10 with a road game Monday at Tyler Consolidated, was led in scoring by Emma Wyer’s 11 points. Kylie Stephens had eight counters and Pheobe Hayes seven in the setback.

Aleya Stanley also pitched in seven markers for the visitors.

Paden City 45, Harman 27

MILL CREEK — Hannah Loy’s 15 points led all scorers as Paden City defeated Harman 45-27 Saturday in a WVHIT game at Tygarts Valley High School.

Skylar Fulks added 11 points while Abbe Stackpole netted seven for the Wildcats, who improved to 5-10 with the win.

Harman (9-4) was paced by Janen Dudley’s 11 markers.

Paden City is back in action Monday when it plays host to Bellaire St. John in an Ohio Valley Athletic Conference consolation game.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Logan 52, Parkersburg South 46

LOGAN, Ohio — Facing the 10th-ranked team in Ohio’s Division I, Parkersburg South nearly pulled off a big upset.

However, tied at 46-all with 30 seconds left, South missed a potential go-ahead putback and Logan went down and scored to take control and win 52-46 Saturday.

Logan’s Bo Myers scored a game-high 30 points and became the Chieftains all-time leading scorer. The only other scorers for Logan were Layton Cassidy with 12 and Caleb Bell with 10. The Chieftains, who trailed 41-38 going into the fourth quarter, improved to 15-3.

South, which managed just five points in the final period, dropped to 5-10 on the year and will take on Capital at 5:30 p.m. Monday at West Virginia State.

Malakia Sylvia led the Patriots with 17 points and eight rebounds.. Brayden Mooney added 11 points and seven boards while Seth Fallon finished with eight points, six caroms and 10 assists.

Greenbrier West 94, St. Marys 67

CHARMCO — St. Marys led 39-25 after a quarter over Class A No. 4-ranked Greenbrier West in the WVHIT semifinals Saturday, but the Cavaliers outscored the Blue Devils 31-14 in the third and 28-14 in the fourth to pull away for a 94-67 victory.

St. Marys (12-5) was led by William Steele’s 21 points on seven 3-pointers. Peyton Auxier and Grant Barnhart added 15 apiece while Richard Dornon chipped in nine.

Greenbrier West (13-3) got a game-high 30 points from Noah Midkiff. Kaiden Tack added 18 while Riley Odell netted 15, Collin Odell tallied 12 and Cody Lewis accrued 10.

St. Marys will visit Robert C. Byrd Friday in a WVHIT third-place game.

Ritchie 50, Tygarts Valley 43

ELLENBORO — Ritchie County used balanced scoring here Saturday afternoon to turn back visiting Tygarts Valley, 50-43, in a WVHIT third round tilt.

The 5-12 Rebels, who play Tuesday at Wirt County, received double figure scoring efforts from Adam Davis (12), Clayton Bee (11) and Joey James (10). Gabe Murphy chipped in eight markers for the Rebels while Billy Butcher grabbed seven boards.

Logan George had a game-high 17 points for TVHS (6-10), which also got a baker’s dozen markers from Aiden Row.

Grace Christian 57, Wood County Christian 46

HUNTINGTON — Garrett Napier tallied 24 points for Wood County Christian in a losing effort Saturday.

The Wildcats fell to Grace Christian 57-46. Sam Cremeans added nine points for the visitors, who dropped to 9-10 overall and play host to Calvary on Tuesday.

Grace Christian (8-9) got 13 points from Eli Foster, 12 from Isaac Perry and 10 apiece from Cooper Branson and Tanner Perdue.

For Wood County Christian, Napier and Tucker Dougherty each grabbed six rebounds. Napier also blocked three shots while Camden Huck had four assists and Trey Davis recorded a pair of steals.

Doddridge 58, Gilmer 52

WEST UNION — Gilmer County’s rally came up a little short here Saturday evening as the visiting Titans fell to 1-14 after suffering a 58-52 setback to Doddridge County.

The Bulldogs, now 3-13 with a game Monday at Calhoun County, were paced by Tanner Lett’s 20 points, Collin Bunting’s 17 and Connor Cunningham’s 12 rebounds.

Brady Fitzwater bucketed 21 points in the losing effort while Justyn Dean contributed 11 markers.

‘Dog Holden Hayes added 10 counters.
