South dominates quad

PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg South put on a dominating performance here Tuesday inside the Rod Oldham Athletic Center as the defending Class AAA state champs swept a quad by besting Hurricane (83-0), George Washington (68-10) and John Marshall (62-11).

Patriot 126-pounder Tucker Windland recorded his 100th career victory and 220-pound teammate Braxton Amos won his only contested match via a five-second pin against GW’s Zachery Johnson.


Wirt County 52. Wahama 45

MASON — Wirt County got a game-high 19 points from Seth Suslik here Tuesday as the Tigers bolted out to a 33-19 halftime lead against Wahama and held on for a 52-45 triumph in the season opener for both teams.

The Tigers, who also received eight points apiece from Justin Windland and Kyler Carper, play host to St. Marys on Thursday.

Jacob Lloyd and Dakota Belcher finished with 10 markers apiece for the White Falcons.

Tyler Consolidated 71, Valley 38

PINE GROVE — Tyler Consolidated won its season opener, 71-38, over Valley (Wetzel) Tuesday,

The Silver Knights, who play their home opener Thursday against Linsly, got 16 points and 11 assists from Griffin Phillips. Tyler West also had a double-double, netting a game-high 19 points and 18 rebounds. Justin Powman added 15 points while Mark Rucker tallied 11.

Bryan Baker paced Valle (0-1) with 12 points.

Wood County Christian 73, Morgantown

Christian 31

WILLIAMSTOWN — Sam Cremeans posted a triple-double in Wood County Christian’s 73-31 win over visiting Morgantown Christian Tuesday.

Cremeans finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Wildcats, who were 30 for 73 (41 percent) from the floor.

Garrett Napier scored a game-high 20 points for Wood County Christian, which improved to 2-1 and plays host to Williamstown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Austin Simmons added eight points while Michael Cline and Tucker Dougherty tallied seven apiece.

Noah Kurilko led Morgantown Christian (0-3) with 14 points.

Warren 63, Meigs 48

POMEROY, Ohio — Warren High registered its first win of the season Tuesday, besting host Meigs 63-48 in a non-league contest.

Brandon Simoniette led the Warriors (1-1) with 14 points. Austin Barta added 13 while Seth Dennis netted 10.

The Marauders (1-1) were led by West Baer’s 13 points and Zach Bartrum’s 11.

The Warriors are back in action Friday night when they play host to Parkersburg High.


Huntington 61,

Parkersurg South 59

HUNTINGTON — The Parkersburg South girls dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 61-59 loss to Huntington Tuesday.

The Patriots, who play again at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Wheeling Park, were led by Sierra Hays’ 16 points. Erin Williams added 14 points while Rylee Harner chipped in 12.

Huntington (1-1) was led by Alecha Turner, Madison Slash and Ralyn Goodson, who all scored 12 points. Via Woodring added 10 for the hosts.

Wirt County 59, Ravenswood 56

RAVENSWOOD — Libby Hall poured in a game-high 22 points here Tuesday night for host Ravenswood, but it wasn’t enough as visiting Wirt County left town with a 59-56 victory.

The 1-0 Tigers, who trailed 33-22 at intermission, got back into the game via a 19-9 third quarter. Pheobe Hayes led the orange and black with 20 points.

Kylie Stephens tallied 12 points, Morgan Wagner had 10 while Emma Wyer and Sydney Woods combined for 15 points for the Tigers, who play tonight at Roane County.

RHS (0-3) also received eight counters from Hannah Smith and seven by Lydia Alfred.
