High School Football Roundup

Doddridge County 62, Tyler Consolidated 43

WEST UNION — Hunter America had a night to remember in Doddridge County’s 62-43 victory over visiting Tyler Consolidated.

The senior back rushed 32 times for 452 yards and seven touchdowns. He led the charge for the Bulldogs’ offense, which totaled 573 yards.

Mark Rucker had an impressive night for Tyler Consolidated, carrying 16 times for 194 yards and four scores, but it wasn’t enough to match America’s historic night.

Griffin Devericks added a pair of touchdowns and 45 rush yards for Doddridge.

Griffin Phillips threw 29 passes, completing 18 for 243 yards and three touchdowns.

Ravenswood 31, Webster County 16

UPPER GLADE — Webster County’s old single-wing worked for a half, but it was all Ravenswood here Friday night after the break as the Red Devils improved to 2-0 following a 31-16 triumph.

Tanner Snodgrass’ 35-yard field goal did give the Red Devils, who have an off week before playing host to Williamstown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 at Flinn Field, an early 3-0 lead. However, Reece Nutter tossed a pair of TD passes — a 17-yarder to Levi Hardway and a 14-yarder to Caleb Milam. Hardway had both conversion runs for a 16-3 lead after one, which stood as the halftime score.

However, the Red Devils’ offensive line began to take over and the defense held Webster County (0-2) to negative yards in the second half.

Jacob Anthony scored from 1 yard out in the third and then from 2 yards away in the fourth and it was 17-16 Red Devils.

Following a Wayne Stephenson 15-yard interception return for a touchdown, Luke Jackson bulled in from the 1 for the final RHS six-pointer.

In all, the Red Devils forced six fumbles as Jackson, who had 12 tackles and three TFL, forced three of them.

Wirt County 35, Paden City 16

ELIZABETH — Wirt County pulled away from Paden City for a 35-16 victory Friday night.

The Tigers (1-1) opened the scoring with a 39-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dylan Lowe to A.J. Garrett, with Lowe’s two-point pass to Nathan Murray making it 8-0.

Matt Saxon returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown and Michael Shreves ran in the two-pointer to tie things up.

Wirt’s Trent Richards countered with a pair of rushing touchdowns, from 2 and 24 yards out, sandwiched around Ryan Alton’s 35-yard interception return for a score. That put the orange and black ahead 28-8.

Saxon caught a touchdown pass from Shreves to help the Wildcats get within 28-16, but Garrett Parsons’ 6-yard scoring run with 3:49 to go in the contest put the finishing touches on the win.

Lincoln County 37, Roane County 6

HAMLIN — Isaac Ryan’s 19-yard touchdown run gave Roane County an early 6-0 lead, but was all Lincoln County from there as hosts ran away with a 37-6 victory.

Tanner Walls tied the game with a 36-yard TD rush before Jeremiah Miller’s 40-yard scoring jaunt made it 14-6 early in the third quarter.

Back-to-back rushing touchdowns by Carson McComas, from 8 and 22 yards out, put Lincoln County up by a commanding 24 points, and Walls’ 24-yard scoring rush with 5:24 left in the fouth quarter sealed the deal.

Walls led all rushers with 119 yards on 20 carries. Danny Bush led the Raiders with 59 yards on 20 carries.

He also completed 5 of 12 pass attempts for 85 yards and an interception.

Notre Dame 28, Calhoun County 8

MT. ZION –Calhoun County was able to keep pace with visiting Notre Dame with an 8-6 lead here Friday night.

The Fighting Irish then scored the last 20 points of the contest to send their hosts to a 1-1 mark on the season.

Four different Notre Dame players scored touchdowns as the Irish evened their record at 1-1.

Travis Richards had the lone score for the Red Devils. He hauled in an Adam Parsons pass from 61-yards out for the touchdown.

Calhoun returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday against 2-0 Doddridge County.

Ripley 27, Buckhannon-Upshur 12

BUCKHANNON — Cyrus Casto accounted for three of Ripley’s four touchdowns as the Viking took down Buckhannon-Upshur 27-12 Friday night.

Casto had a pair of 1-yard touchdowns runs and hit Evan King on a 7-yard TD pass with 1:33 left in the third as Ripley extended its 14-12 halftime lead to 27-12 going into the final quarter.

Dalton Myers’ 13-yard touchdown run got the scoring started, and Casto’s first 1-yard score made it 14-0 Ripley at the 1:57 mark in the first.

Ryan Strader helped the hosts cut it to 14-12 with a pair of rushing TDs, from 5 and 4 yards out, with eight seconds left in the first half.

RJ Evans, of Ripley, led all rushers with 115 yards on 22 rushes. Jeremy Harper added 69 yards on 13 totes. Casto was 4 for 6 passing for 30 yards.

Fort Frye 37, Northridge 6

NORTHRIDGE, Ohio — Senior quarterback Tate Engle torched host Northridge for 239 passing yards and two touchdowns en route to a 37-6 victory for the Fort Frye Cadets.

Brian Adkins caught both of Engle’s touchdowns, one from 33 yards and the other from 31, and also ran in from 3 yards out to open the scoring in the first quarter.

Draeden Turner scored Fort Frye’s other two touchdowns on rushes of 1 and 3 yards.

Adkins finished with three catches for 71 yards and seven rushes for 40 yards. Evan Schob led the Cadets with 55 yards on six totes. Engle was 13 for 17 with one interception, while Brady Schilling was his top target with 97 yards on six catches. Tyler Fisher added 71 yards on four receptions.

Richwood 37, Gilmer County 0

GLENVILLE — Visiting Richwood scored 13 in the first quarter, 18 in the second and six in the third to claim a 37-0 victory over Gilmer County Friday.

Gilmer was led in rushing by Joey Frame, who took 22 carries for 87 yards. Ean Hamric did the passing for the Titans, completing 5 of 21 pass attempts for 72 yards.
