South, PHS football home tonight

PARKERSBURG — Both Parkersburg public high schools, PHS and South, don’t go out of town for their football games tonight, while Williamstown tries to get back on track at Magnolia and Parkersburg Catholic is looking to go 2-0 Saturday night.

The PHS Big Reds, 0-1 after a 45-35 season-opening road loss last Thursday to Morgantown, face a powerhouse in Cabell Midland (1-0) in a 7:30 p.m. matchup at newly-renovated Stadium Field, while the 1-0 South Patriots, who bested Ripley 27-7 in their season lidlifter, are back at the Erickson All-Sports Facility at 7 p.m. to tackle an 0-1 University squad that fell to John Marshall last week.

Meanwhile for 0-1 Williamstown, the Yellowjackets head up north to tangle with 1-0 Magnolia at 7 p.m. after getting run over 33-0 by visiting Wheeling Central last Thursday.

Then there’s the upstart Catholic Crusaders, who pelted Paden City 47-14 in their opener to start to forget a winless season last fall. At PHS Stadium Field 7 p.m. Saturday, PCHS goes up against 1-0 Ritchie County that edged out Tyler Consolidated 24-22 last week.

Across the Ohio River tonight, 1-0 Marietta after blanking Morgan 41-0 last week takes a short trip to Warren High School to play the 0-1 Warriors, a 51-26 victim of Athens in week 1, at 7 p.m., while 1-0 Belpre that got burned 42-14 by visiting Fort Frye last week travels to Athens High School to tangle with Trimble at 7:30 p.m.

Back in West Virginia, LKC contests tonight involving LKC teams are: 0-1 Tyler Consolidated at 1-0 Doddridge County, 7 p.m.; 0-1 Scott at 0-0 St. Marys, 7:30 p.m.; 0-1 Paden City at 0-1 Wirt County, 7 p.m.; Clarksburg Notre Dame (0-1) at Calhoun County (1-0), 7 p.m.; 0-1 Roane County at 0-1 Lincoln County, 7:30 p.m.; 1-0 Richwood at 0-1 Gilmer County, 7 p.m.

And also in the Mountain State tonight are 1-0 Ravenswood at 0-1 Webster County, 7:30 p.m.; and 0-1 Ripley at 1-0 Buckhannon-Upshur, 7:30 p.m.; while other games in the Buckeye State tonight find 1-0 Fort Frye at 0-1 Northridge, 7 p.m.; 1-0 Waterford at 0-1 South Gallia, 7:30 p.m.; 0-1 Beallsville at 0-1 Frontier, 7 p.m.; 0-1 Eastern at 0-1 Caldwell, 7 p.m.; and 0-1 Federal Hocking at 1-0 Southern, 7:30 p.m.
