Jackson Middle School wins all-sports trophy
Generals edge Edison 100-99.5
PARKERSBURG — Jackson Middle School edged out out Edison by half a point to claim its first Wood County Middle School All-Sports trophy in a decade.
The Generals finished with 100 points while Edison tallied 99.5, the closest margin of victory in competition history. Third place Blennerhassett was third with 84.5.
Jackson led start to finish, holding a 10.5-point lead after the winter sports season. Edison came charging for the lead with an impressive track season, but the Generals held them off.
In total, Jackson won championships in boys and girls tennis, football and 7th/8th grade boys basketball. The Generals also claimed runner-up finishes in golf, cheerleading and 6th grade girls basketball.
It’s Jackson’s 10th trophy win in the competition’s 30-plus year history, and the first since the 2007-08 season.
Jackson Middle School’s coaching staff includes Sharon Marks (cross country, girls track), Jeff Olson (tennis), Jeff Board (golf, 7th/8th grade boys basketball), Jay Lindamood (football), Kristen Allodi (volleyball), Teri King (cheerleading, wrestling), Donnie Fosselman (6th grade boys basketball), Molly Kiger (6th, 7th/8th grade girls basketball) and Don Reeves (boys track).
The win denied Edison a three-peat, as the Eagles had won the trophy in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
