Belpre 93, Southern 82

BELPRE — Belpre shot 52 percent on senior night here Tuesday and the Golden Eagles improved to 12-9 following a 93-82 triumph against Southern.

The Golden Eagles, who honored 12th-graders Bailey Sprague, Cole Knotts and Nate Godfrey, trailed 20-18 after one, but used a 49-33 edge in the middle two stanzas to take control.

Belpre’s Brandon Simoniette tied for game-high scoring honors with 23 points. Godfrey double-doubled with 12 points and 11 rebounds while also blocking a pair of shots. Conner Baker had 15 points, Sprague finished with 14 while Logan Adams had a dozen and Ryan Simoniette nine.

Southern was led by Dylan Smith’s 23 markers. Trey McNickle had 17 and Brayden Cunningham 15.

Frontier 68, Barnesville 67

NEW MATAMORAS — Frontier got 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals from Shon Howell here Tuesday night as the host Cougars needed overtime to best Barnesville, 68-67, in an Ohio Valley Athletic Conference consolation game.

The Cougars also received 16 points apiece from Toby Minder, Logan Brookover and Brent West. Brookover, who had the game-winning 3-pointer, also missed a double-double by one rebound.

Monroe Central 75,

Paden City 48

PADEN CITY — Trey Slider had a game-high 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds for host Paden City here Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough as Monroe Central improved to 6-15 following a 75-48 victory.

The 5-12 Wildcats, who play host Thursday to Clay-Battelle, also had 11 points from Ethan Cross as well as seven points and seven assists from Matt Saxon.

Zac Jones’ 20-point effort led the Seminoles.

Webster County 78,

Doddridge County 55

WEST UNION — Tied at 54-all after three quarters, visiting Webster County held Doddridge County to one point in the fourth quarter to run away for a 78-55 victory Tuesday.

Five players scored in double figures for Webster (12-6), led by Cole Taylor’s 22. Cody Lowther added 20, Tyler Gray netted 15, Garrett Hamrick notched 11 and Drew Holcomb chipped in 10.

The Bulldogs (6-13) trailed 31-15 after the first quarter but cut it to 40-35 at halftime and tied it up going into the fourth period, but couldn’t get shots to fall down the stretch.

Collin Bunting and Chase Dunaway scored 17 and 15 points, respectively, to lead Doddridge while Chris McCombs and Tanner Lett scored eight apiece. Dunaway also grabbed eight rebounds.

Gilmer County 70,

Wirt County 58

ELIZABETH — Gunnar Haley and Brady Fitzwater scored 16 points each to lead Gilmer County to a 70-58 win over Wirt County Tuesday.

Justyn Dean added 13 for the Titans, who are headed back to Elizabeth Thursday for a Little Kanawha Conference placement game.

The Tigers (5-14) were paced by Justin Windland’s 15 points. Trenton Burdette added 14 while Hunter Hickman and Zakk Adams scored nine apiece.

Braxton 64, Clay 48

SUTTON — Braxton County outscored visiting Clay County in every period Tuesday night en route to a 64-48 victory.

The 17-3 Eagles, who take on Ravenswood at 8 p.m. Saturday inside Glenville State College’s Waco Center in the LKC championship game, received 17 points apiece from Tayton Stout and Jacob Oates. Cole Browning netted 16 markers for the victors.

Clay (12-7) got a dozen counters each from Isaac Workman and Thomas Haverty.

Waterford 77, Wahama 37

MASON — Bryce Hilverding led all scorers with 24 points in Waterford’s 77-37 clobbering of Wahama Tuesday.

Peyten Stephens produced an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Wildcats, while Travis Pottmeyer chipped in 12 points, four assists and two blocks.

The White Falcons were paced by Noah Litchfield’s 12 markers.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PHS 60, Ripley 42

RIPLEY — Visiting Parkersburg High jumped out to a 20-8 lead after just one quarter and went on to post a 60-42 victory over Ripley Tuesday night.

PHS (16-4) was paced Shay-Lee Kirby with 18 points, Bre Wilson with 16 and Madi Mace with 12.

For Ripley, Katelyn Sarver netted 13 points and Lexi Miller notched 10.

PHS plays today at Huntington St. Joe at 7:30 p.m.

Paden City 41,

Wood County Christian 17

PADEN CITY — Hannay Loy’s double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds led Paden City to a 41-17 victory over Wood County Christian Tuesday.

The host Wildcats improved to 6-14, holding the visitors to five points or less in all four quarters.

Abbe Stackpole and Erin McIntyre added six points each to complement Loy for Paden City.

Emily Browning paced Wood County Christian with five markers.

East Fairmont 36,

Gilmer County 29

GLENVILLE — Freshman Kierra Bartholow tossed in a game-high 16 points as East Fairmont concluded its regular season at 10-12 following a 36-29 road win here Tuesday versus Gilmer County.

The 9-12 Titans, who have the Class A, Region II, Section 1 fourth seed, will be play host at 7 p.m. Saturday to fifth-seeded Doddridge County.

Gilmer County was led in scoring versus the Bees by Grace Wellings, who tallied 10 markers. Hannah Grove chipped in eight markers for the Titans.

Cabell Midland 73,

Clay County 40

CLAY — Faith Craddock knocked down six 3s and went off for a game-high 37 points as visiting Cabell Midland ran past Clay County on, 73-40, to improve to 16-5.

The 11-11 Panthers, who start sectional play at 7 p.m. Friday at Braxton County, received eight tallies apiece from Marissa Williams and Kacey Butcher.
