OVU men defeated in ‘Sweet 16’

PHILIPPI — Ohio Valley University’s historic men’s soccer season has come to a close.

The Fighting Scots fell to Rockhurst, 1-0, Thursday in a Division II “Sweet 16” match. OVU finished the season 17-2-4.

Michael Panarisi’s golden goal in the 104th minute lifted Rockhurst (15-2-2) to victory. Adam Michel and Kaleb Jackson were credited with assists on the play.

Ohio Valley goalkeeper Carlos Rubio saved six of Rockhurst’s seven shot on goal attempts. Logan Feldmann was credited with a clean sheet between the pipes for Rockhurst, recording three saves.

Rockhurst earned six corner kick tries compared to four for OVU.

Under the guidance of head coach Luis Rincon, Ohio Valley won the Great Midwest Athletic Conference this season and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. OVU had previously defeated Davis & Elkins 0-0 (4-1) to advance to the “Sweet 16.”

The only shots on goal for the Fighting Scots came via a pair from Nicolas Rodriguez and one by Celso Riveros.
