Friday’s high school football roundup with stats

St. Marys 55, Tyler Consolidated 14

KIDWELL — Jaiden Smith and Matt Eichhorn each had a pick-6 here Friday night as No. 5 St. Marys jumped out to a 35-0 advantage and cruised past host Tyler Consolidated, 55-14.

Smith, who rushed seven times for 170 yards and had TD runs of 7 and 67 yards, made it 35-0 with 3:34 left in the half on his 20-yard interception return of a Griffin Phillips pass. Although Mark Rucker’s 3-yard reception from Phillips and Kyle Mason’s two-point conversion catch made it 35-8, the Blue Devils led 42-8 at intermission when Smith made his 67-yard romp and Robbie Gonzalez was true on the extra point again.

Eichhorn, who had 92 yards rushing on five carries, went to the house from 70 yards out in the first quarter. His 36-yard pick-6 came in the third and he added the last SMHS score on a 3-yard TD run.

Rucker got the final six-pointer of the night when he raced 60 yards to paydirt for the 5-5 Silver Knights. He finished with 10 carries for 63 yards and had seven receptions for 41 yards.

Ripley 43, Ravenswood 15

RIPLEY — JT Kemp scored on a pair of short touchdowns and rushed 23 times for 119 yards here Friday night at Death Valley as host Ripley won the annual “Battle of the Hatchet” against rival Ravenswood, 43-15.

Ravenswood (5-5) kept the game close, trailing only 22-12 at the break.

Kemp’s 3-yard score and Evan King’s 10-yard touchdown run along with two Jacob Casto PATs put the hosts ahead 14-0 after one. Ethan Mahan, though, had a 38-yard touchdown reception from Max Hilton, which was answered when Kemp bulled in from the 1. Jake Greene’s 50-yard interception return for a touchdown set the halftime score.

After intermission, Viking signal-caller Brayden Campbell had a 12-yard TD run while RJ Evans and Ty Eshenaur reached the end zone from 3 and 15 yards out, respectively.

Ripley (4-6) dominated in first downs (31-7) and total yards (432-144).

The Red Devils’ other points came via a Ryan Cunningham 36-yard field goal.

Independence 24, Roane County 20

COAL CITY — Roane County nearly overcame four turnovers here Friday night, but in the end the Raiders came up short 24-20 to host Independence and finished the campaign at 0-10.

Connor Gibson had game-highs of 22 rushes for 111 yards and scored two touchdowns.

The Patriots (6-4) led 16-0 after one, but Tyler Ricker answered with an 8-yard scoring jaunt and Josh Huffman bulled in from the 1 to close the deficit to 16-12 at intermission.

Gibson, though, made it 22-12 at 5:27 of the third when he scored from the 1 and Adam Daniels’ run for two was good.

Ricker, who finished with 17 totes for 91 stripes, raced 39 yards to paydirt at 8:08 of the fourth and the Raiders cut it to four when Huffman hauled in Brandon May’s two-point pass.

May hit on 5 of 9 passes for 102 yards. Ricker (3-25), Dylan Cornwell (1-32) and Greg Hart (1-45) had the Raiders’ receptions.

Magnolia 42, Moorefield 26

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Brooks Parsons scored on the first play of the game — a 67-yard touchdown run — and on the first snap of the second quarter — an 80-yard gallop — as Magnolia finished the season strong with a 42-26 senior night victory here Friday versus visiting Moorefield.

Hunter Partridge, who had 17 carries for 165 yards, had consecutive touchdown runs of 37 and 14 yards between Parsons’ two scores as Magnolia (4-6) led 28-0 just 13 ticks into the second quarter. Parsons finished with nine rushes for a game-high 189 yards.

Partridge later added TD scores of 24 and 50 yards. Blue Eagle quarterback Pat Mirandy, who was 4 of 8 for 32 yards, made all six of his extra points.

Matthew Jenkins led the Yellow Jacket offense thanks to a trio of touchdown runs from 31, 11 and 27 yards. Kennan Mongold also added a late 5-yard TD run for the visitors.
