Parkersburg South 28, Brooke 7

WELLSBURG — Brooke quarterback Gage Yost broke loose for a 73-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7-all here Friday night late in the first quarter, but it was all Parkersburg South after that as head coach Mike Eddy’s Patriots knocked off the host Bruins, 28-7.

PSHS, which led 7-0 after Brayden Mooney hit Huntar Shank for an 8-yard TD toss at 2:24 of the first, watched Yost take it to the house just 18 seconds later.

However, the Patriots (2-5) went ahead for good on a Mooney 3-yard run and another extra point kick by Ahmed Ali at 6:27 of the second.

The 14-7 halftime lead for the Patriots, who play host at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 to Greenbrier East, remained that way until Shank bulled in from the 1 at 8:20 of the fourth. Brooke (1-5) was led by Yost’s 99 yards on nine attempts. He also went 11 of 29 through the air for 90 yards and was intercepted by Devin Gaines.

Mooney (19-65) and Shank (9-53) also found some running room for the Patriots, who also had a 20-yard reception by Ryan Kirk.
