WATERFORD — Waterford defeated Miller 35-25 in a TVC Hocking shootout Friday night.

Waterford’s Peyten Stephens kicked things off for the Wildcats with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Braden Bellville added a 39-yard scoring jaunt to make it 14-0.

The Falcons then scored 19 unanswered points to take the lead, 19-14. Levi Vanbibber caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Colby Bartley, Zach Waldrop had a 7-yard rushing TD followed by Vanbibber’s 2-yard touchdown catch from Seattle Compston.

As quickly as the Falcons got the lead, they lost it as Bellville took the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a score to make it 20-19.

Miller went up 25-20 in the third quarter on Waldrop’s 4-yard touchdown run, but Bellville again answered with a 30-yard touchdown run, then rushed in the two-point conversion, to put the Wildcats up 28-25.

Bellville, the star of the night, fittingly put the capper on the game with an 18-yard touchdown run with 2:23 left in the game.

Bellville finished with 200 yards on 22 carries. He scored four total touchdowns and even had a catch for 10 yards.

Stephens was 3 for 13 passing for 80 yards. He threw one interception. Cody Harris was the leading receiver with 50 yards on one catch. Noah Huffman also had one catch for 20 yards.

Waldrop led Miller with 108 yards and two scores on 24 totes. Vanbibber caught caught three balls, two for touchdowns, for 28 yards. Alec Eveland had a catch for 25 yards.

Waterford led the total yardage battle, 279-213, but lost two fumbles to Miller’s zero.

After an 11-1 season, which included two playoff wins, in 2016, Waterford began the 2017 season off in style. The Wildcats were picked by media to win the conference, but Miller was regarded as one of their top challengers.
