PARKERSBURG — Jared Wilson lasted 5 1-3 innings and recorded eight strikeouts while teammates Ben Menarcheck and Drew Yanok knocked in three runs apiece to help lead Parkersburg South past visiting Roane County here Wednesday at Hank Greenburg Field, 11-4.

Roane County freshman Danny Bush, who was making his starting debut, couldn’t get out of the first inning after issuing a quartet of free passes. The Patriots, now winners of six straight, took advantage with four runs.

Skipper Matt Null’s squad also put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding 9-3 advantage.

Drew Kinder finished 3 for 4 with a sixth-inning run-batted-in for the Raiders, who dented the scoreboard first. Kinder led off with a single and later scored on Stan Kinder’s RBI knock to right.

The Patriots, who improved to 8-2 and play at 5 p.m. today at Cambridge, tied the game when Todd Burner singled and scored on a wild pitch. Reece Fletcher, Hunter DeLong and Chase Freshour also crossed the plate thanks to RBI bases-loaded walks by Menarchek and Ryan Taylor along with a sac fly from Yanok.

Roane County, which was limited to four hits in dropping to 5-3 with a home game set for 5 p.m. this evening versus Gilmer County, finished the contest with a trio of young hurlers — freshman Jackson Mace, sophomore Jake Whiting and ninth-grader Josh Huffman, who was making his varsity debut.

PSHS got a one-out single by Dalton Wiggins in the second. With the aid of a Raider error, Wiggins scored on a Menarchek RBI hit by pitch. The Raiders got one back in the third when Hunter Thompson walked and scored on a wild pitch.

Despite cutting the deficit to 4-3 in the fourth after Alex Reynolds walked and came around to score on another wild pitch, the visitors couldn’t recover following the second four-run outburst from the Patriots. Yanok had a key two-run double to center while Menarchek had an RBI groundout and No. 9 hitter Nick Yoho a run-scoring single.

Parkersburg South tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. Taylor and Yanok both scored after drawing walks thanks to Burner’s two-out, two-run single to left. Burner had a web gem to end the fourth when he robbed Brandon May of a hit. The shortstop ranged behind the bag at second, made a diving stop and then fired across the diamond from a sitting position.

Drew Kinder also had a nifty play in the second to get Freshour with the bases loaded. The Patriot designated hitter hit a shallow pop into center field and the shortstop Kinder ranged out to make the catch and then fired home with a one-hopper to keep a run from scoring.

Wilson allowed just three hits, but issued six walks and was charged with four earns runs. Fletcher worked the final 1 2-3 innings to close out the win. He allowed one hit and had three punchouts.
