PARKERSBURG — Woodrow Wilson’s shots fell, and Parkersburg South’s didn’t.

That was pretty much the story Thursday night at the Rod Oldham Athletic Center, where the Class AAA No. 5-ranked Flying Eagles defeated the Patriots, 97-64, on South’s “Senior Night.”

Woodrow Wilson (16-6) finished the game 37 for 69 (54 percent) from the floor and scored at least 20 points in all four quarters. South did not fare as well shooting the ball.

“I think we missed our first 16 shots,” said South head coach Mike Fallon. “Give credit to them because I think they sped us up a little bit. I think we were getting good looks, but (our shots) were quick coming out of our hand and that kind of stuff. But tonight, I think all the credit goes to them. They played unbelievably well.”

Isaiah Francis totaled game-highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds for the Flying Eagles. Bryce Radford scored 18 points, all in the first half, while Courtney Walton and Breland Walton tallied 12 apiece.

“When they shoot the ball like that, they’re hard to handle,” said Fallon, whose team fell to 11-11 and now turns its attention to the postseason.

“Now we’re 0-0. This thing is over with and we’re ready to start the tournament. It doesn’t matter what your record is now.”

Shane Snider scored a team-high 16 points for the Patriots while Seth Fallon and Bobby Foggin netted 15 apiece.

South finished the game 26 for 63 (41 percent) from the field but struggled early, falling behind 29-10 after a quarter.

“We shot good,” said Woodrow Wilson head coach Ron Kidd. “That was probably one of our best games. I think our kids were focused and ready to play.”

South trailed 6-4 early in the first, but the Eagles went on a 10-0 run to pull ahead. It never got better from there for the Patriots, who fell behind by 32 midway through the second on Francis’ basket-and-one. Francis and Radford did the bulk of the first-half scoring for the visitors.

“I thought they stepped up tonight,” Kidd said. “It was the total opposite of Saturday (in a loss to Huntington). We couldn’t make anything and we looked flat Saturday, but I thought we were ready to play tonight.”

Woodrow Wilson led 57-29 at halftime and 77-45 after three quarters.

Prior to the game, South honored cancer survivor and South student Hailley Parsons. Both teams wore yellow warm-up shirts that read “#HailleyStrong” on the front.

“There was a lot of adrenaline in the air,” said Fallon, whose team also honored lone senior Foggin.

“It was a great night, no matter what the score was.”
