High School Girls Basketball Roundup

Fort Frye 63, New Lexington 30

BEVERLY — Fort Frye’s focus was squarely on New Lexington.

It would have been easy for the Cadets (8-5) to be looking ahead to taking on a talented Frontier girls team – a long-time Pioneer Valley Conference rival – on Wednesday. But Fort Frye didn’t let that happen and rolled to a 63-30 non-conference victory Monday evening.

The ease of Monday’s victory did allow Fort Frye to get all 10 players in the game and work on some different schemes.

The Cadets pounced early on the Panthers as seniors Tanner Booth and Makayla Liedtke each scored five points in the first quarter as Fort Frye jumped out to an 18-8 lead. It got worse in the second period as Fort Frye outscored New Lexington 23-9 behind Mackenzie White’s eight points, including two three-point baskets.

Sophomore Morgan Borich led all scorers with 15 points, including two three-pointers. Liedtke added 11 points and five rebounds, while Katie Hart had 10 points and four assists. Booth enjoyed a solid all-around game with nine points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Fort Frye put the clamps on the Panthers’ offense in the opening of the second half as the Cadets opened on a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 53-17.

The Cadets expect a different type of game when they host one-loss Frontier at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Fort Frye got a little taste of what it will see against the Cougars in a 46-41 victory over John Glenn this past Saturday.

Bailey Davisson led New Lexington with 11 points, while Olivia Rose added 10 points.

Roy C. Start (Ohio) 71, Parkersburg 53

TOLEDO, Ohio- Four Big Reds scored in double figures for head coach Kenny DeMoss but it wasn’t enough as PHS dropped a 71-53 decision to Ohio Division I fifth-ranked Roy C. Start High School Monday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Classic.

Shay-Lee Kirby, Bre Wilson and Madi Mace all scored a dozen for the Parkersburg (9-3).

Alex Delozier also chipped in 10 points in the losing effort.

Hannah Carroll (3) and Aleea Crites (4) also found the bottom of the cylinder for DeMoss.

PHS will attempt to climb to double-digit wins Friday when it welcomes in St. Albans at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Red Dragons already have one win over a Parkersburg team this year when they beat Parkersburg South at the I.O.G.A Tournament at Glenville’s WACO Center in December.

Union Grant 80, Wirt County 51

ST. MARYS — In the 13th annual St. Marys Invitational third place game, Union Grant defeated Wirt County 80-51 Monday night.

Wirt County was paced by Cori Hughes’ 24 points. Caitlin Cottrell was next with eight.

Belpre 61, River Valley 44

BELPRE — Cheynne Barker knocked down four 3-pointers and was 10 for 12 at the free throw to lead Belpre to a 61-44 victory over visiting River Valley Monday.
