Cadets roll to 44-6 win

BEVERLY — Sophomore quarterback Tate Engle threw for three touchdowns and Casey Lewis rushed for 204 yards and a pair of scores as the Fort Frye Cadets rolled to a 44-6 win over the Centerburg Trojans in a Division IV, Region 23 opener Friday night in Beverly.

The win marked the very first win for a Washington County School in Ohio High School Athletic Association play.

The Cadets scored touchdowns on each of their first two possession of the game to jump out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back to improve their record to 11-0 on the season.

Engle connected with Garrett Lochary on a 31-yard touchdown pass to get the Cadets on the board with just under nine minutes to play in the first and a minute later Lewis rambled 44-yards to score his first touchdown of the game to increase the lead to 14-0.

The Cadet came up with a pair of huge defensive stops in the red-zone against Centerburg to keep the Trojans off the board.

Leithon Stewart’s 22- yard touchdown run with 4:12 to play in the half made it 22-0 and after the Fort F rye defense forced the Trojans to once again turn the ball over on downs, the Cadets executed a perfect two-minute drill to get yet another score on the board before the intermission.

A pair of Lewis runs moved the ball to midfield and Engle connected on a 26-yard pass to Brady Carpenter to move the ball to the Trojan 19-yard line.

After an incomplete pass stopped the clock with just two ticks left, Engle found a wide-open Stewart for yet another Cadet touchdown and a comfortable 30-0 lead at the break.

The Cadets tacked on a pair of second half scores on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Engle to Jacob Prichard and an 8-yard run by Lewis.

The Fort will advance to play Barnesville next weekend at a site and date to be determined in the regional semi-final.
