WILLIAMSTOWN — Huntington St. Joseph may have scored the first goal here Saturday afternoon, but host Williamstown then tallied the final five to notch a 5-1 girls soccer win, improving to 9-1-4 on the season.

“I thought they hit us right across the jaw with a right hook right at the beginning, scoring just two and a half minutes into the game,” said Williamstown head coach Jason Hill.

That was when Moran McKenzie of the now 9-3-2 Irish kicked the ball in at the 37:30 mark before Yellowjacket goalie Aubrey Yeager could get to it for a stop.

“But I told our girls ‘don’t get down, there’s a whole of time left to go in the game,’ “ said Hill. “So I was very happy that we were able to imprint our game by impressing our athleticism, our play and our skill on them. That enabled us to get five straight goals and the game was in hand pretty quickly after halftime.”

But before that, the ‘Jackets’ Sydney Hill headed in a goal at 10:55 of the first half for a 1-1 tie. “It was a great goal,” said coach Hill about his daughter’s score.

“I think our attacking offense really gave us an edge in which we could dominate this team with the strength of our seniors and all the skill that we have.”

That point was obvious in the second half as Williamstown put up two goals early and often in the initial 16:32 to pull ahead 3-1. Two more scores at 18:29 and with just 1:42 left completed the point production for the day.

Ally McMullen and Sydney Hill delivered two goals each and Ashley Morris the other for Williamstown, while assists were credited to Ellie Gardner with two and one from Jensen Newton, and Yeager had eight keeper saves.

The Yellowjackets next take to the home pitch again at 5 p.m Tuesday when they play visiting Cross Lanes Christian on Senior Night.’Jackets top Huntington St. Joseph
