Kogo sets race record
PARKERSBURG – The last four years of the News & Sentinel Half Marathon has had one thing in common – Julius Kogo crossing the Market Street finish line by himself and no other competitor in sight
Kogos’s Aug., 20, 2011 time of 1:01.46.97 is the current record for the race and time and his personal best.
Just for the record, a 5K race is approximately 3.1 miles and a half marathon is 13.1 miles. That is about nine seconds faster for a 5k race and 39 seconds for a half marathon.
In the four years Kogo has won the Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon, his mile pace has always been at least three seconds faster than the runnerup (2012) and his record pace in 2011 was nine seconds faster per mile. All of his victories were by more than that calculated 39 seconds.
