Marshall men’s basketball has 13-game non-conference schedule

HUNTINGTON – Return trips from South Carolina and Penn State and a road game at Louisville – three power conference teams – highlight the 2014-15 Marshall men’s basketball 13-game non-conference schedule.

The first of 16 regular-season home games is scheduled Nov. 14, as former Marshall cager (1966-69) first-year Thundering Herd head coach Dan D’Antoni makes his collegiate coaching debut against Jacksonville State. Two days later, Marshall will host Savannah State and then meet NAIA member WVU Tech on Nov. 18.

The first road contest of the season will come against the 2013 NCAA champion Louisville Cardinals on Nov. 21 at the KFC Yum! Center. Marshall will then return home for a four-game homestand – its longest of the season – starting with a Nov. 26 meeting with regional rival Morehead State.

Marshall will play host to Cleveland State on Nov. 28, and then close out a stretch with seven of its first eight games of the season at home versus South Carolina (Dec. 1) and Penn State (Dec. 6).

Marshall will make its annual trip to Charleston for a Dec. 14 date with in-state rival West Virginia in the Capital Classic – scheduled on a Sunday for the first time.

The final home game before Conference USA play is set against King (Tenn.) University, an NAIA program, on Dec. 16.

A three-game road stretch comes next for the Herd with the first two at Arkansas State (Dec. 20) and Nevada (Dec. 22), serving as return trips of home-and-home series. Marshall then finishes the 2014 portion of the schedule and non-league play with a Dec. 30 visit to Akron.

  • First-year Marshall head coach Dan D’Antoni along with assistant coach Chris Duhon and NBA veteran coach Mike D’Antoni will hold the 2014 Marshall Basketball Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Henderson Center.

Registration will begin at noon with the clinic getting underway at 1 p.m. The three-hour clinic will contain periods led by each of the three coaches, followed by a question-and-answer session with the Marshall coaching staff and Mike D’Antoni.

Individual coaches can register for $75, while staffs of two can register for $125 and three-person staffs for $150. The registration cost will include a ticket to the Marshall football home opener that night and food at the coaches social and tailgate that will follow the clinic and precede the 7 p.m. football game against Rhode Island.
