Football specialists gather at Stadium Field

PARKERSBURG – Six hours of intense training combined with delivering the Athletes in Action platform awaits kickers, punters and long-snappers at Sunday’s third annual kicking camp scheduled for Parkersburg High School’s Stadium Field.

The one-day event sponsored by Brandon Kornblue Kicking runs from noon to 6 p.m. This camp is geared toward helping each specialist reach their maximum potential as a placekicker, punter or long-snapper. Not only will this be an environment to improve technically as an athlete, but the camp also will provide an environment to grow personally.

“Athletes in Action uses these camps as a platform to share the gospel and develop relationships with kids,” said Tyler Warner, who is a former kicker for Parkersburg High and Marshall University and a representative for Athletes in Action. “Brandon Kornblue will teach the dynamics of technique. He will teach how to properly warm up and show stretching exercises. A lot of people don’t know what warm-ups to do for kicking.

“We also plan on getting each kicker on video and breaking them down one by one. By the end of the day, we will put it all together with the long-snapping, holding and kicking then do a competition.”

Since 2007, Kornblue Kicking has trained thousands of NFL, NCAA and high school specialists – including two of the three finalists for the 2013 Lou Groza Award.

Staff members at the kicking camp include Warner, former Parkersburg South and current West Virginia University kicker Michael Molinari, former Maranatha Bible College (Wis.) wide receiver Clint Mahan and Matt Spitz, who was a two-time Division III All-American kicker at Capital University (Ohio).

The cost for registration is $245, which includes a video and a T-shirt. More information about the kicking camp in Parkersburg can be found at www.WVKickingCamp.com.
