Evans shoots 66 to take over the top spot at W.Va. Open

DANIELS -Windy, misty and chilly conditions gave moving day at the 81st West Virginia Open an autumn feel in late July. However, the weather did not stop players from posting low numbers. Parkersburg’s Kenny Hess shot a 1-over 73 in the second round Thursday.

Hess was tied for the lead at the beginning of the day but fell off the pace of leader Will Evans. He carded a 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead into today’s final round over Craig Berner. Berner posted a 3-under 69.

Only nine players managed to keep their score in red figures.

Other area MOV golfers making the cut were Cole Moore of Spencer who shot 1-over 73 on the day, and Alan Cooke of Vienna finished the second round with a 2-over 74 to fall 11 shots back of the leader.

Defending champion David Bradshaw of Harpers Ferry remains just two strokes off the lead after shooting a 4-under par 68.

The cut line finished at 11-over 155 and 67 players will play the final round today with the leaders scheduled to begin at 10:48 a.m.
