Games pushed back a day

PARKERSBURG – Heavy rains over a 24-hour period wreaked havoc with regional softball and the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional being played at Don Schaly Stadium in Marietta.

Regional semifinals for softball have been rescheduled for today, weather permitting. The Class AAA, Region 1 semifinal at Jackson Park between Wheeling Park and Parkersburg High School is set for 4 p.m. The Class AA, Region I semifinal in Ellenboro between Ritchie County and Oak Glen will begin at 5 p.m.

The time for the first pitch at the Class A, Region IV semifinal in Elizabeth between Williamstown and Wirt County remains as a 5 p.m. start. A pair of regional semifinal games in Class A, Region 1 also are rescheduled. In New Martinsville, Magnolia hosts Wheeling Central at 3 p.m., while St. Marys hosts Clay-Battelle at 6:30 p.m. in Belmont.

In high school baseball sectional play, St. Marys needs one victory against Valley (Wetzel) to secure the Class A, Region I, Section 4 title. The two programs meet at Dave Wilson Field in St. Marys for a 5 p.m. first pitch. If the field is not ready, the game could be moved back to a 6 or 7 p.m. start.

The opening game of Class AA, Region I, Section 2 between Roane County at Ravenswood was postponed Thursday and is rescheduled for 6 p.m. today.

Across the river at Don Schaly Stadium in Marietta, Marietta College’s winner’s bracket game against Widener at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional will begin at 9:30 a.m.
