South boys, PHS girls claim swimming titles
MORGANTOWN -Swimmers from the city of Parkersburg swept the first major swim meet of the season here Saturday as the Parkersburg South boys and the Parkersburg High girls captured team titles at the Mohawk Winter Invitational.
The South boys needed virtually all of their 310 points, as they nipped runnerup Fairmont Senior by just four points. Parkersburg was third in the 10-team field with 281 points.
In the girls competition, PHS amassed 480 points to win by a comfortable 55-point margin over Morgantown. South was third with 253.
PHS senior Sean Snider was a double winner, taking the 200 and 500 freestyle events, with South’s Joe Miller coming in second in both races. South got a first place from Garrett DePergola in the 1000 breaststroke.
In the girls competition, Parkersburg’s Jen Standley won the 200 freestyle while Hannah Wareheim was second in the 200 IM and Tara Foster second in the 100 butterfly.
