MOV Toughman Contest set for Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at Parkersburg High

PARKERSBURG – The 29th annual Mid-Ohio Valley Toughman Contest will be conducted Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1 at Parkersburg High School’s Memorial Fieldhouse

Advance ticket sales begin Saturday, Jan. 11 at Memorial Fieldhouse and select Speedway stores in Parkersburg and Marietta. Ticket prices are $20 for general admission, $25 for reserved seating and $30 for VIP ringside.

Fighters, both men and women with no pro fights and limited amateur experience, from 18 to 39 can sign up to compete, either on-line at or by calling 1-800-296-3897.

The highly-popular event is a single-elimination boxing tournament. All bouts are scheduled for three one-minute rounds.

The weight classes for both men and women are lightweight (up to 139 pounds), middleweight (140-159 pounds), light-heavyweight (160-184) and heavyweight (185-400).

Up to $12,00 in prize money will be awarded, up to $1,000 and $300 for the men’s weight class winners and runners-up respectively.

Women’s prize money may depend on the number of contestants and bouts.

Each champion will be awarded a Toughman jacket, and each runner-up will receive a trophy.

On tap each night will be a pro fight – kick boxing on Friday with Wes Hanson vs. Charlie Mullins and boxing on Saturday featuring Joe Paintiff.

The Toughman Contest, run by West Virginia Sports Promotions, Inc., is sanctioned and will be supervised by the West Virginia State Athletic Commission.
