Muskingum 24, Marietta College 14
NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Alvin Taylor’s 97-yard kickoff return sparked host Muskingum University to a 24-14 Ohio Athletic Conference victory here Saturday against visiting Marietta College in a contest where neither team scored after intermission.
Kirby Harris’ 9-yard TD catch from Marietta College Tom Fulton late in the first quarter answered a Shane Dotson 15-yard scoring run to tie the game at 7-all. However, Taylor returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown and Melvin Smith’s 15-yard touchdown scamper gave the hosts a 21-7 cushion early in the second.
Tim Conner, who bulled his way to game-highs of 36 carries and 138 yards, closed the deficit to a touchdown after his 4-yard score and Garret Butler’s second extra point kick. The Muskies added a Caleb Carpenter 26-yard field goal to account for the final scoring with 4:57 left in the half.
Daryl DeWindt had 13 tackles for the Pioneers, who watched Harris finish with eight catches or 92 yards.
Dotson (18-96), Smith (12-75) and Cody Williams (14-75) led the Muskingum ground attack on a day where the hosts completed only 4 of 7 passes for 80 yards, all of which went to James Washington from the signal-caller Williams.
Glenville State 17,
West Virginia State 12
INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State had more first downs and more total offense, but had to settle for field goals instead of touchdowns as Glenville State earned a 17-12 win over the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon.
GSC’s Rahmann Lee had 132 yards and a touchdown for the Pioneers, and Sean Steele was 9-of-22 for 76 yards and a touchdown in the victory. James Johnson led all players with 18 tackles and broke up a pair of passes.
Josh Reuber hit four field goals to provide all of the scoring for WVSU. Reuber hit from 38, 19, 36 and 42 yards out. Quarterback Tyler Seals was 26-of-53 for 292 yards.
