Prep grid wars enter week 8 tonight
PARKERSBURG – Top-ranked Class AAA Huntington visits Parkersburg to face the Big Reds tonight, while Belpre, Marietta, Wirt County, St. Marys and Fort Frye all play at home as week 8 of the high school football season commences in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Other highlight games of the night are Parkersburg South at Brooke, Parkersburg Catholic at Valley (Fayett), Doddridge County at Eastern, Wahama at South Gallia, Warren at Gallia Academy, and Ravenswood at Point Pleasant.
PHS, 2-4 after two tough road losses in a row, tackles the 6-0 Highlanders at 7:30 p.m. at Stadium Field. Huntington has piled up 217 points and surrendered only 38 this season, while the Big Reds, who have given up 193 and scored 158, play another top-10 team at home next week in No. 2 George Washington.
South, 2-4 after notching win No. 2 last week, is on the road to Brooke for a 7 p.m. contest versus the 1-5 Bruins; No. 14 Parkersburg Catholic (6-1) travels to No. 3 and 6-0 Valley (Fayette0) for a key 7:30 p.m, Class A ratings battle; host Belpre, inching closer to the .500 mark at 3-4, takes on undefeated Trimble (7-0) at Ralph Holder Stadium at 7:30 p.m.; and 5-1 Williamstown heads to Wirt County (2-4) for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Tigers.
At St. Marys, the 6-0 Blue Devils, ranked No. 1 in Class A, renew their rivalry with visiting Magnolia (4-3) at 7:30 p.m,; Caldwell (5-2) and Fort Frye (6-1) engage in an Ohio ratings duel at Beverly at 7 p.m.; Marietta (2-5) entertains 6-1 New Philadelphia at 7 p.m. at Don Drumm Stadium; Warren (2-5) meets host Gallia Academy (5-2) at 7:30 p.m.; Doddridge, with high playoff hopes at 5-2, journeys into Ohio for a 7:30 p.m. meeting with Eastern (2-5); visiting Ravenswood (4-2) tangles with unbeaten Point Pleasant (6-0) at 7:30 p.m.; and Wahama tries to improve to 7-1 on the season at 4-3 South Gallia at 7:30 p.m.
Other 7:30 p.m. games in West Virginia tonight find Calhoun County (0-7) at Roane County (4-2), Hannan (1-5) at Gilmer County (4-3) and Paden City (3-4) at Bishop Donahue (3-3), with Frontier (3-4) at 3-3 Valley (Wetzel) as well as South Harrison at Tyler Consolidated, pitting a pair of 2-4 teams, both at 7 p.m.
Also in Ohio at 7:30 p.m. tonight are Miller (2-5) at Federal Hocking (3-4) and Waterford (2-5) at Southern (6-1).
