Trimble 12, Wahama 7
MASON – Wahama’s 32-game regular season winning streak came to an end here Friday night as visiting Trimble jumped out to a 12-0 halftime lead and held on for a 12-7 Tri Valley Conference win over the top-ranked and defending state champion White Falcons.
Trimble (2-0) took a 6-0 lead with 6:52 left in the first quarter when Connor Stanley hit Jacob Koons with a 4-yard pass. The Tomcats added to the lead on a 12-yard Stanley TD run just 13 seconds before intermission.
Wahama lit up the scoreboard with 6:31 left in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Hunter Bradley and Billy Joe McDermott’s extra point kick.
The White Falcons had three other scoring opportunities in the second half, getting the ball inside the Trimble 30, but came away scoreless on all three attempts.
Wahama (1-1), which got 92 yards rushing from Kane Roush and 65 from Colton Neal, will travel to Reedsville next Friday night to meet Eastern.
St. Marys 7, Wirt County 6
ELIZABETH – St. Marys picked off Wirt County quarterback Damian Rhodes six times here Friday night at Wilson-Eismon Field and the Blue Devils escaped with a narrow 7-6 victory.
The Blue Devils, now 2-0 with their first home game set for next Friday against Parkersburg Catholic, played the game without injured tailback David Gray. However, Michael Stout hit Colby Brode on a 60-yard bomb early in the second quarter and Garrett Furr’s extra point gave the visitors the lead for good.
Wirt County, which will try to stop its two-game slide next week when 2-0 Gilmer County invades, cut the deficit to 7-6 when Justin Joy hauled in a 3-yard scoring strike from Rhodes, but the snap was bad on the extra point and the Tigers could convert.
Jeremy Pratt rushed for 71 yards on 15 attempts while Blue Devil teammate Noah Spitzer had 59 yards on 21 rushes. Stout finished 5 of 12 for 131 yards with Brode catching four passes for 106 yards.
Cody Ferguson led the orange and black with 70 yards on a dozen attempts.
Doddridge County 26,
Tyler Consolidated 12
KIDWELL -Doddridge County ran its record to 2-0 here Friday night, rallying in the second half to knock off Tyler Consolidated, 26-12.
The Silver Knights (0-2) took a 6-0 lead just two minutes and 42 seconds after the opening kickoff when Jacob Highley scored on a 1-yard run. That would turn out to be the only score in the first half.
Doddridge took a 7-6 lead with 2:25 left in the third quarter when David Lipscomb scored on a 1-yard yard and Isaac Britton booted the extra point. The Bulldogs scored again a little over a minute later when Jarrod Sandy intercepted a Tyler pass and returned it 58 yards for a score. Lightning again struck for Doddridge on the final play of the quarter when Lipscomb scooped up a fumble and returned it 65 yards for a TD and a 20-6 lead.
Cole Kocher added a fourth-quarter score for Tyler while Sandy rushed for an 8-yard score for Doddridge.
Both teams are home next week as Doddridge entertains Calhoun County while Tyler will play host to Magnolia.
Gilmer County 18,
South Harrison 0
LOST CREEK -Gilmer County rolled to its second straight win here Friday night, downing South Harrison, 18-0, in a Little Kanawha Conference contest.
The Titans scored twice in the first half -both on long fumble returns. Fist, it was Austin Ratliff returning a lost South Harrison fumbled 80 yards for a score in the first quarter, then, in the second stanza, Ty Harleroad returned a fumble 75 yards for a TD and a 12-0 halftime lead.
Gilmer closed out the scoring in the third quarter when quarterback Austin Cunningham hit Anthony Dean with an 18-yard TD pass.
The Titans played error-free football while taking advantage of South Harrison (0-2) mistakes.
Gilmer travels to Wirt County next Friday night for a Little Kanawha Conference matchup.
Sherman 23, Calhoun County 15
SETH – Calhoun County scored the first and last touchdowns of the game here Friday night but Sherman scored three TDs and a safety in between en route to a 23-15 win over the visiting Red Devils.
Calhoun (0-2) scored in a 59-yard TD pass from Logan Moore to Mason Sheldon with 8:14 left in the first quarter and on a 9-yard Moore to Joseph Richards pass with 4:43 left in the game.
The Red Devils outgained the Tide (1-1) 185 to 183..
Calhoun County travels to Doddridge County next Friday.
Federal Hocking 40, Waterford 0
WATERFORD -Delbert Crum rushed for three touchdowns and gained 150 yards on 15 carries to lead Federal Hocking past Waterford 40-0 on Friday night.
The Lancers’ Peyton Seel also contributed a 22-yard touchdown run returned a punt 40 yards for another score while leading the defensive unit with 12 tackles.
For Waterford, Jaret McCutcheon rushed for a team-high 34 yards on 14 carries.
Both teams moved to 1-1.
