Patriot boys rout TC Silver Knights, 6-0

PARKERSBURG – Scoring two goals in first 14 minutes set the tone Tuesday evening for host Parkersburg South, which went on to post a 6-0 boys soccer shutout over Tyler Consolidated at the Erickson All-Sports Facility.

The win, which improved the Patriots’ record to 3-4 on the season, was paced by three goals and an assist by senior Dillon Dowler, a goal and two assists from senior Wyatt Parsons, two assists from senior Brett Mattson, and single goals from senior Peter Puschautz and sophomore Dylan Hall.

Just 6:07 into the contest, Dowler caught up with the ball in front of the goal before Tyler’s keeper could get to it, and put it in the net. Then at the 26:16 mark of the first half, Mattson got the ball ahead to Dowler, whose baseball slide kick caromed off the left post and in for a 2-0 lead.

Silver Knight keeper Nathan Heintzman then made three saves before Puschautz drilled in a shot from 15 yards out with 4:08 left in the first half to give South a 3-0 advantage at intermission

Dowler added his third goal of the night at 34:59 of the second half, and the Patriots tacked on two late scores by Parsons at 1:46 and finally Dowler feeding Hall with 49 seconds remaining for the margin of victory.

“We got two goals pretty quick, then kind of slowed down a little bit,” said South head coach Ed Ayers. “Plus, I got to subbing a lot of guys in who hadn’t got to play a lot.”

Ayers thought his team has progressed as the season has unfolded so far. “I’m pretty well pleased with how they’re doing,” he said, “although, like in second half tonight, we’ve got to learn to finish the ball.”
