BACF Basketball Classic tonight

PARKERSBURG – It’s been 12 years now since the BACF (Battle Against Cystic Fibrosis) board added a basketball game in the spring to an already-successful football game in the summer, and the addition has become as popular as its older namesake.

Thanks to the efforts of first Joe Crislip and now Bill Camp as game directors through the years, the BACF Basketball Classic has prospered at Parkersburg South High School, where it’s been played since its inception.

Tonight at South’s Rod Oldham Athletic Center, both senior girls and boys high school basketball players from Ohio and West Virginia will participate in the 12th annual BACF cage contests, starting at 5:30 p.m. with the girls game and followed at approximately 7:30 p.m. by the boys tilt.

West Virginia leads the boys series by a hefty 10-1 margin, while the girls series is as close at it can be with W.Va. ahead just 6-5.

Head coaches tonight are Parkersburg South’s Mike Fallon for the West Virginia boys and Paden City’s Kelly Sine for the West Virginia girls.

For Ohio, the head coaches are Matt Combs of Vinton County for the boys team and Rick Isaly of River for the girls squad.

The boys skills competitions – three-point shootout and dunk competition – will take place at halftime of the girls game, with the girls skills competitions – three-point shootout and free throw-shooting contest – will take place at halftime of the boys game.

Other special guest performances, including the Parkersburg South Southern Belles dance team and the Jump USA jump-rope team, will take place throughout the course of the evening.

Tickets are $5 each and can be bought at the doors, which will open at 4:30 p.m.
