PHS?swimmers place second, third at MSAC

CHARLESTON -George Washington ran away with both Mountain State Athletic Conference swimming titles here Saturday as the Patriot girls and boys dominated the league’s annual meet.

Parkersburg High finished second in the girls competition and third in the boys races.

The GW girls amassed 417 points to 285 for runnerup PHS with Hurricane third at 102.

The Patriot boys had 398 points, more than double that of second place Hurricane with 174. Parkersburg nipped South Charleston for third place, 158 to 150.

Although PHS didn’t win any events, the Big Reds of coach Linda Alt had nine second-place finishes. For the PHS boys, Sean Snider had a pair of runner-up efforts in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle while Preston Padden was second in the 50 and 100 freestyle races. PHS also placed second in the 200 freestyle relay. Peyton Hughes was third in the 100 backstroke and the the Big Reds 400 freestyle relay team also placed third.

The Big Red girls finished second to GW in all three relay races and got a second place individual effort from Jen Standley in the 100 freestyle. Hannah Wareheim had a pair of third place finishes in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke while Claire Collett had two fourths, in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Sarah Snider was fifth in both the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle while Tara Foster was fifth in the 100 butterfly.
