Dirt track schedule taking shape

Solidifying the local dirt track schedule has been a top priority for the American Motor Racing Association (AMRA).

Princeton Speedway has signed on to a full-time AMRA modified sanction in 2014. Princeton will be the anchor for the organization in southern West Virginia.

After leasing the 4/10th-mile track over the past several years, Princeton Speedway owners Melvin and Sherlene Bishop will take over the operation of the facility full-time again in 2014.

Princeton joins dirt track facilities of Atomic, Skyline, Midway, Ohio Valley, I-77, Legendary Hilltop, O’Brion and Thunder Mountain on the track schedule this year. Plans for Beckley to join the 2014 schedule are uncertain.

Bishop and his team made major changes to the 4/10th-mile facility in 2011, widening the front stretch to a longer, sweeping shape.

New clay was brought in and the turns banked more from top to bottom. Also at the time, several new sets of lights were added and a new fence.

Recently, a new concession stand was built in the pit area at Princeton. The rules for Street Stock, Hornets, U-Cars, Pro Mini Stock, Outlaw Modified, Superstock, Fastrack and AMRA will be on the track website and AMRA rules will be on the www.amramodified.com website.

The first on-track practice session at Princeton will be on April 12.

The first race of the 2014 season will be on April 19.

  • Tyler Schedule: The Hometown Racing Association has released the 2014 schedule at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, W.Va.

The quarter-mile facility will open for practice on Saturday, March 29th with an evening open session from 5-9 p.m.

The track’s first race will be on Saturday, April 5, for the 40th anniversary season.

Tyler County Speedway annually hosts the national and regional touring series such as the World of Outlaw Late Model Series, NDRL King of Dirt, Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour and FASTRAK Racing Series.

The speedway’s Weekly Racing Series consists of the Super Late Models, FASTRAK Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Hotmods, ModLites, FWD 4 Cylinders and MWRA Mini Wedges on Saturday nights April thru September.

  • Race Car Show: The Grand Central Mall will be hosting a race car show that features all types of racing vehicles, including the American Motor Racing Association Kryptonite Late Models and Octane Race Product Modifieds.

The show is set for March 9-16 and entries are currently being sought. Limited space is available for the 25 to 50 cars that will be on display.

Any class of car is welcome, but Dirt Late Models, Modifieds, Hot Mods, Outlaw Sprints, Pure Stocks, Mini-Wedges and more are expected.
