I think that the drinking age should be 18. Holding it at 21 is'nt working for under age drinking and driving under the influence. You see people dont have to blam the age for what the people do. Yes, I do trust that the drunk driving crimes have went down, but I beleive that people use it a little more responsible. People still drink and drive, but they started using common sence. Take for example all of the wnder age partys that cops bust with in 3 months. It's the better choice to lower the drinking age. If anyone noticed we are the only country with the drinking age of 21. The point is with or without a drinking age of 18 or 21 your going to have the responsible and your going to have the idiots. Now what's your choice? Before you make it; make sure it's right.

Dunno what college presidents have to do with setting drinking ages. I feel as most, kids are gonna find a way to get drinks anytime they want. Fighting for our Nation should be a milemarker for drinking age. Dunno how to separate the military from good time Charlies though.

I feel if the boys and girls are old enough to defend our country they should be old enough to get blasted out of their minds on their own time. It makes them feel grown up and able to handle anything. But wait my first memories... was when I was a scared little baby/girl, we had parties and drunk, loud strange people around on weekends. That was when I felt deserted by both my parents. They were there, but I just so afraid and uncomfortable in my own home. After I married I had to tell my parents if they wanted to visit my babies, in my home, they would have to come sober. AA intervined. Drinking can cause more pain than joy if you hurt you loved ones. It is a choice, but is it worth it.

The letters prior to mine are telling it like it is. If 18 is a legal, adult age, then 18 should be allowed to make their own decisions, right or wrong. Like all things, responsibility should be taught along with "rights".

Unless several laws, such as the ability to enlist in the armed forces and the age for consentual sex are changed, it is wrong to restrict adults from buying any legal product on the market. Either you are a legal adult or you are not. As several people have already mentioned, the fact that it is "illegal" does contribute to the poor behavior that we often see in 18-20 year olds that are drinking.

This law is completely unconstitutional. You can't tell someone their an adult and yet restrict them from something that other legal adults are allowed to do. It's called age discrimination and it shouldn't happen. I am 31 years old now, I believed this when I was 18 and I still do. I am also now a mother and believe that it is my duty to teach my child responsibility when making the decision to drink. We say that we can't trust "kids", but as long as we consider the age of adulthood at 18, this law is totally bogus. As for, GoldNBlue, you should do a little research and you would find that more of the left (liberal) supports such a law change than does the right (conservative).

Folks against this really have their head in the sand. I guarantee that if you teach a kid moderation and responsibility, instead of passing laws to do your parenting for you, progress will be made. That is the problem with some liberals, they want the government to regulate too much instead of doing their job as a parent. Kids who are preached to and see drinking as a "forbidden fruit" are the ones who binge the most and end up dropping out or get in trouble. This is a very American problem, in Europe there is less a stigma about drinking and therefore not the rampant abuse by youths.

And by the way i drink responsibly a few beers and im good. I also enjoy smoking the pipe from time to time(no not weed). Moderation is the key to true happiness.

First of all old enough to die in war old enough to have a few drinks. The age limit isnt gonna stop kids from getting there alcohol. Its forbidden fruit that makes them do it they think they are cool for it. Maybe the best thing to do is start making all the beer non alcoholic and not telling anybody about it until a few years later and reduce the amount of alcohol in liquor by half but slowly over a period of time. I once seen a test where a group of people on two separate occasions where given beer and told to get drunk except in one test all the beer was non alcoholic and everybody was acting like they where drunk but there wasn't any alcohol in there systems pretty funny stuff. You cant ask people in this country to act with maturity and you cant expect that out of most of the kids either its the party atmosphere that corrupts even the best of them maybe one thing they could do is start a public campaign to ostracize drunkards the way they have smokers Peer pressure ya know
