editorial on city of vienna budget
was a very interesting and informative editorial today on why the position of an economic development person should be eliminated from this year's budget while a $461K shortfall in place for next year. it noted that raiding the capital reserve should be a last resort to balance the budget not the first option. as was noted by almost every council member over the past two years (except Ms. Nohe-Smith), there is little or no land to develop in the city. a few parcels here or there and a 6 acre appears north on grand central about on the city boundary. Mr. Rapp wants to build hotels/ motels for the influx of people from the fracking plant to be built. but how long will they be here before moving on to next project? he needs to recognize that Vienna is a small bedroom community and let that be the emphasis. instead it would appear he is trying to outdo parkersburg.
