al qaeda flags are now flying over Iraq towns

Our soldiers died to free those 2 towns, and won. Has obama no shame? He pulled all troops out for purely political reasons. His former Sec. of Defense, Gates, says so. This is the most disgraceful time in America's history.

ithink- you made a reference to a statement barry made about al qaeda being on the run, and then added that it had something to do with the election. The objective of the military was to turn the security of Iraq over to the Iraqis'. There was no clandestine plan to do anything else.Sec. Gates himself, in his book and in many interviews has voiced the reason for increasing al qaeda strength was the failure of Maliki as a leader. We can't stay there forever. What would your strategy be?

Oneill, you sound like a lunatic. Why would I advocate killing anyone? You can not find one pro -violence words in any post I have written.

All you know how to do is give false words and thoughts to any non- red citizens and blame Fox and Rush.

You are pathetic. Think up something new for your baby security blanket.

I think it has been a long time since he saw a history class. That wasn't oneill's final career adventure. Just the one he wants to promote.

Oneill is this the same al Qaeda that obama said was on the run? B E, of course. Before election.

Pardon me, while I fall asleep in history class, professor.

Sometimes, I wish I could did George Wallace's body up and stand it across from your domicile so you could go positively SPASTIC. LOL

Oh! Tell brutus45750 that I said HI!

I've seen geneology research like that. They also did one for a ancient king in Ireland and I think Ghengis Khan too when it involves Asian people.

The end result is that we are all relatives and children of the Mitochondrial Eve that came from central to south Africa.

I'm certain someone will arrive and tell us the errors of our ways.

Sadly my experiences with Miss Welch comes from The Shawshank Redemption. But what a great poster it was!

"And one way to become energy independent is to make use of energy sources not entirely dependent upon fossil fuels.."

Uh-oh...now you dun did it. The fringe Right won't stand for that kind of rational talk.

From a cultural stand point, I wish that public schools would take more time in focusing on the history within the Middle East and Asia. Seems once they get into the Roman Empire period, it becomes very Euro-centric. I can of course understand that since we take most of our collective history from Europe but the world was more connected than sometimes how history is taught.

I remember in junior high, we had a teacher that took what now seems like a little more time and effort in teaching us about the history of Islam. I am really appreciative for that because where was my understanding about that faith and culture going to come from? The Media?!

Not surprisingly, your ancestors were at odds with one another. Go back far enough and that happens all the time.

Mostly just a bunch of Scots, Germans, English, Irish and a possible Arab ancestor with me.

And Fred, would you agree that one the best things we could possibly do to the Middle East is to be able to be as energy indepenent as possible.

Look at the world pre-Vasco da Gama for an example. Europe was so dependant on the Ottoman Empire for trade to India and beyond. But when Europe rounded the Cape of Good Hope and the value of the New World started to become apparent, the retirement age for "The Old Man of Europe" had begun.

If the Western World could cut its economic ties from that part of the world, then we wouldn't feel the need to interfere and they wouldn't feel the need to retaliate.

The only military involvement that could work is complete and total war. Take a page from General Sherman and General MacArthur's book od war and occupation. Start on the coast of Lebannon and start going east. Destroy everyone and everything along the way. Whatever is left, you systematically destroy whatever cultural connection it could have for those left behind.

It should only take a few good decades to pull off, result in millions of deaths and the loss of one of the oldest cultures in the world.

But as I am quite sure Fred would agree, no one in the US or the western world has the stomach for such a horror. Thank goodness.

Even hundreds of years of occupation by the Crusaders didn't really change a whole lot when one looks at Israel.

It's always funny but it seems like some of the most results of the Crusader time in Jerusalem is that the Church of the Holy Sepluchre has Muslims holding onto the keys of the place, a hole in the Foundation Stone and lots of ruins that were converted and reused by the Muslims.

Kendall78, you are correct about the name Olivia. i smiled when fred posted her name. i'll agree with you...i have never had trouble with an Olivia...but then again i have never knowingly came across one in the flesh. i am rather envious of fred. my wife wishes she had a grandbaby to spoil and fawn over. all i can say to fred is enjoy her as much as you can.

Olivia is a name that has a certain degree of refinement attached to it. You exect trouble out of the Kellys, Tiffanys and Mercedes of the world but how often do you ever think of trouble with an Olivia?

"European and American involvement in Middle Eastern affairs has NOT be profitable"

I agree...at least not for the everyday person. Maybe there is some rich jerk that made out though.

"my greatX32 grandmother was Queen Eleanor of Castile (wife of Edward I "Longshanks" of England"

Well well well...my ancestor through the Oliphant line ends up at Robert Bruce, King of Scotland. You'll understand why I may not be a fan of "The Hammer of the Scots".

"The entire Middle East is a mess and it has been since Europeans first intervened in 1097"

I would mention that the Middle East/Caliphates was also meddling with Europe well before the Crusades. The Umayyad Caliphate was firmly entrenched in Europe over 300 years prior to the 1st Crusade.

Tiredofit, that was a pretty darn good post there. thanks for the info. i am not as much of a history buff as i should be. thats why i enjoy participating in these forums. you can learn from just about anyone and i enjoy that. no matter where one is...recognizing a problem and having the drive and motivation to seek the solution is the key. having the resources available assits immensely. perhaps, they are best led by dictators...if so then let them have their little piece of earth to destroy themselves as much as they wish. however, their ideology and mindset will not allow them to be contained in much the same way as we wish to spread our ideology to them.

Another example of people not having the ability to life themselves up is in the Africa and other places where people live in squalor and literally their own excrement.

They don't have the know how and the ability to think of something better.

Something as simple as an outhouse would improve their lives.

Having a centralized place for trash would improve their lives.

Where does most of that go? On the ground right next to them.

And it doesn't even take modern technology to get those things.

Heck as advanced we are at this time in history just think the Romans had running water..even hot water!

In my opinion some things have to be earned. It has to come from within. That way if forms a solid foundation for further improvement. It also tends to become something that stays with a person or people.

moderation...there came a man of whom i was not worthy to lace his sandals. he was and is still the fisher of men. i can not compete. perhaps that is why i strive to maintain patience and composure with those around me. fishing, defective golf balls and hard to open bottles are another story.
