al qaeda flags are now flying over Iraq towns

Our soldiers died to free those 2 towns, and won. Has obama no shame? He pulled all troops out for purely political reasons. His former Sec. of Defense, Gates, says so. This is the most disgraceful time in America's history.

mythravere, every nation is built upon a religion in that a religion is nothing more than a belief system. so whether you assign a name or not... it is still a belief system. the way in which we vote depends on a belief or even faith if you will. the difference being that a purely single-religion rule can be detrimental...especially to those that do not ascribe. personally, i think that each person will vote based on their religion or belief system. good or bad is up based on one's or anothers personal opinion. in addition, i think that you will find dilutions and modifications based on whims, moods, social variances and such for most of the worlds religions. i think too many folks get nutted up in the notion that governance that happens to coincide with a particular or many different religions core beliefs does not constitute a state-mandated religion. nature hates a vacuum so every belief has a name and a religious connotation. matter fact i despise vacuums too!

The best way of putting it I have is this.

You can't expect an acorn to grow into an oak tree in the desert can you?

The freedom and industriousness we have and what we have done with those traits is something unique to us.

Other peoples across this world possess a similar drive.

I honestly don't think the Iraqis do. Its not in them.

We can't give it to them either.

Oh, good morning,lts- a high tolerance for most relationships in life can be quite a rewarding experience, and will become even more so as we hone that learned skill. When it comes to angling, for me,fishing out a hole indicates that I have more to learn about being a fisher(of)man.

Japan is a good example. Germany is too.

But there is something about people from the middle east that sets them up for rule by tyranny.

Could be a perfect example of why religion shouldn't be allowed total control of a nation.

One thing to note about the people of Japan and Germany is that their people had a far higher degree of freedom after the war than say the Iraqis do.

Wherein the Iraqis have a lot of internal conflict that stunts the development of the country.

I think that is product of the people themselves.

We can't change that. They have to. And if they dont want to or can't? Why waste our time and money trying to lift them up.

The problem with the Iraqi people(I'll use them as an example)is that I do not believe they possess in their spirit the necessary traits to build or maintain a system that can lift them out of their "despair".

The internal strength needed for such an undertaking just isn't there.

I mean they allowed a tyrant control over themselves for so long.

mythravere, thanks for your thoughtful response. i think history indicates that the "terrorists" require conversion and/or compliance or you become their enemy. one can make it more complex than that, but it essentially seems to be that simple.

lts- successful fishing teaches patience and conservation which can be most therapeutic for many people. OC's is a good example.

"I would think you would care about al Qaeda becoming powerful again." Ithink AGAIN!

Ithink you do understand that being there as much if not more than "not being there" is an effective way of swelling the ranks of Al Qaeda?

Really Ithink? God what a stupid comment.

"There are lots of people suffering all across the globe..including here."

Dont you think it hilarious that when Ithink responded to the comment I made she focused on this nation and ignored the other places of this world where suffering is?

And I never mentioned mass suffering on the level seen elsewhere in the world as taking place here.

And pray tell even if I did how would mentioning that make me an anti-american radical?

LOL! Silly conservatives.

luvthesouth you would be correct Al Qaeda's origins can indeed be traced to the Soviet-Afghanistan war. The CIA armed and trained some of them. And correct me if I am wrong Osama Bin Laden was in that group. Off hand I can't give the exact time frame but the US pulled support from them which kinda ticked them off from what I read.

Getting to the essential point that I was trying to get across the issues we have had with terrorism are blow back from policies this nation has pursued in the middle east.

People like Ithink like to say that terrorists just hate us and thats why they have attacked us. Its more complex than that.

"Glad you feel like laughing about a place where women and children are suffering right now."

Are you going to insist we go to South Sudan or Central Africa next? Lots of suffering there but I don't recall the Tea Party ppl yammering about those poor suffering souls.

"We had won and those places were relativly peaceful says Gates.. We needed to keep a sustaining force there"

Maybe it is not in the best interest to keep a sustaining force there. Personally, I do not want us there for the next 70 or so years like we have been in Japan and Germany.

Mostly my issue is that if the only way to keep that nation from tipping over is to keep our soldiers there for the rest of the century, it's not worth it.

Not only does obama have the world in a mess, the poverty level in the US has broken a 50 year record.

But he takes care of DADT in the nilitary, closing our coal mines, and all kinds of special interests. Not to mention ruining our health care system.
