There are many people I respect on here, so it seems very odd to me when they go so off base with critiques on their own writings.
Who gets to define the parameters and limits of what is moral?
There is only one true answer to that question.
Society itself is the definer of what is moral. No one group can lay claim over what is and what isn't moral.
If a person or group finds themselves being left out or left behind where the current definition of morality falls then its because society itself has moved on and away from those previous definitions.
Is the wrong? Is that something to be lamented?
A better question is what would it take to keep moral standards from changing.
That would take the enforcement of those morals one wants to see upheld.
The only way that can happen is if punishment is used as means of enforcing that adherence. Muslim countries and their "Moral Police" for example.
In this country a policy like that is the antithesis of the freedom we enjoy and like to hold above the rest of the world.
Are you now the spokesman for most people?
Actually, morality changes quite a bit. It's not an absolute. There are a few cases where certain actions could be considered an absolute moral like not to murder but where most people complain about moral decay, they are talking about such issues like hom ose xuality and the like. Those issues are not so clear in the world of morality.
Morality has not changed, what is accepted by society has, this is what I am referring to. The things going on today were going on all through human history in one form or another, if there is no judgment from society, we encourage more of it.
I don't exactly believe in "moral decay" as much as I think it's about a united morality in a culture. Many people seem to look back at the 1950's as a time that morality in the US was good but who is to make that judgement really? I think it wasn't so much that the morality was better but that most people agreed with it as a group, even if they didn't agree with it behind closed doors.
Bread and Circuses in Rome and America Huffingtonpost. Hardly a rightwing site. While I do not agree with every point being made therein, the author does do justice to what I am talking about.
Tea party vs occupy. Which would you say conduct themselves more in a proper manner? Which would you take your kid to and stay all night?
If you beleive for one second that any of them give two good craps about you past Nov. you are out of your mind.
And it IS a game, one played daily right here on this forum as well. Us against them, division and distraction is the name of that game and the only winners are the elite class in DC.
Our society is in decline, there are many examples in history to show us exactly where we are heading. Moral decay, or progress as some call it, is what's killing us. Now before you get your atheist panties in a wad, no one is suggeting that you have to be a Christian to be moral.
No one will ever report on a plane landing safely, and if they did no one would tune in.
Ok what are the core values you speak of, you defined the negative fairly well but I would add entitlementent mentality to your examples.
Putting the focus on the positive and creative ..creates more of the same. Likewise for the bad stuff.
The good values are there and demonstrated everyday....but where is that held up high and reported on?
Instead we get to hear about Kayne Wests new controversy etc ad nauseum.
Just look around Tiredofit. Stupidity abounds as a laudable trait to have. Reality TV for example.
The news. All of it. Focuses on the dividing issues. They set up and encourage this us versus them mentality in the populace.
Like its all a game.
The focus isn't on the positive and creative. But the negative and destructive.
Everyone has to win at all costs.
I know that you know what I am getting at.
Just look Black friday. Disgusting. Those people who fight over cheap wares. What would they do if something essential like water or food became scarce?
Yet we as a people enable that.
I am relying solely on my own experiences when I compare Bing and google. When searching for a comment or action that obama has done, if it makes him look bad, sometimes it can't be found with google, but Bing will have a whole list of sources.
I use google most of the time, but I do recognize its bias.
And what are those things?
Everything changes. Nothing stays the same. It would be near impossible for a society and its values etc to remain static and unchanging.
What makes and has made this country great is still here. It just hidden by all the bs we're are splattered with every single waking minute.
What is is the dismantling of what made America great, what will be is more of the same til we become unrecognizable. If this be progress then we have progressed too far. Regaining sanity should be job one.
"I am referring to the big list of future plans he has."
Oh, you are worried about what could be instead of what is.
“Google is in obama's back pocket.”
I doubt that. Let’s examine to whom Google employees gave campaign contributions in 2012.
So Google employees gave $14,000 more to Congressional Republicans than they gave to Congressional Democrats.

I think we can safely assume that Google employees give their money to the party they prefer.
