There are many people I respect on here, so it seems very odd to me when they go so off base with critiques on their own writings.
And yet you feel the need to say it again. Obsessive much?
I believe I said it first, keep up
I think I said it was ok. Pay attention.
Cries about moral decay usually come about from the conservatives when they are frustrated with things they cannot keep the same and the unwillingness to change.
"lies through his teeth to get his signature legislation through congress."
Sounds like congress failed in their duties.
and that's OK
It may surprise you but you were not the only person I was responding to.
The rest of your post did not address a thing I said but that's ok
Kendall, I put you in your mid 30s somewhere between the wide eyed ignorance of youth and the seasoned wisdom of experience. Not and insult, just my observation.
The things going on today were going on all through human history in one form or another, AS I STATED. The rest of your post did not address a thing I said but that's ok
Moral progression isn't a bad thing at all because it's natural. Most of us want a balance in our lives and that need is also reflected in our culture and morals. Sometimes the culture takes a conservative swing and then counters with a more liberal one. The catch to it all is how we adapt to those shifts. I think that the advancement of communication has helped a great deal in handling these shifts. So while we do have what we might deem as extremes in morality, the majority of the people won't find themselves at either extreme but more in the middle.
Honestly, you haven't said nothing that couldn't have happened 50 years ago really. People steal...out nation has been there and done that. People cheat...same thing. The only major difference is that we hear about it more and the offenses are out there for all people to see and judge for themselves. Morality isn't in a static bubble. It does change and sometimes the law reflects that and other times the law hinders it.
Dear leader Chairman Obama, lies through his teeth to get his signature legislation through congress. Now we find out that not only will we lose our doctors and our plans, its going to cost a buttload more deductibles high as heck.
Travon Martin/ George Zimmerman. Lots of folks didn't seem to give to rats behinds about the facts of that case, rather their political agenda drove their passions about who was guilty. MORAL DECAY
you mention the black Friday phenomenon. People care so little about others that they trample fight and curse each other over a TV set. off topic thought, why is a television called a set?
I forget what city it was in, but there was a snafu in the EBT computer which allowed unlimited purchases for a period of time, What happened? People bought cartloads and cartloads of food and apparently never thought twice about it. THAT IS MORAL DECAY
Moral decay is obsessing about Myley Cyrus as our countries debt begins to crush our economy and our childrens future. Just look at Yahoo front page to see what people are clicking on. BREAD AND CIRCUS
Myth there you go with your paranoia about the Christian boogiemen. Lets take this example. Bill Clinton in doing things to a young intern, not his wife, and lies to the American people and commits perjury as a result. The act of infidelity and lying is as old as original sin, where the decay comes in is when his supporters saying it was no big deal. They didn't care that he lied and committed adultery and perjury because he was on their side. They would not have dismissed it if he were republican. Most likely there would have been republicans who would have taken up for him in that case. The point is, we accept bad behavior from those sworn to serve because of what team they are on. THAT IS MORAL DECAY in my book.
All of that leads me to a rather hypocritical gripe that comes from some on the right.
We've seen it mentioned on here. The wailing over this "threat" that Muslims are trying to bring about Sharia Law in this nation.
Its so hilarious that the people who complain about that are essentially wanting to institute their own religious "law" by way of guiding and instilling their chosen morality on this nation.
And I know the question that will inevitably crop up out of that statement is this.
If the progression of morality from one group of values to another leads to the destruction of the nation, group of people etc then what good is that progression?
Shouldn't that progression be stopped?
Well for one thing what try and imagine what it would take set this nation on a strict set of morals inspired by Christianity for example.
Because that is where this question originates from.
We got one group of people who want this nation to adhere to their moral standards.
Ultimately for that to happen this nation would no longer be what it is. A democratic republic. It would become a Christian dictatorship.
Thats why the muslim countries are dictatorships.
Its the only way their religious standards can continue to hold its grip on their respective societies.
Disagree with that all you want. Its the truth.
Who gets to define the parameters and limits of what is moral?
There is only one true answer to that question.
Society itself is the definer of what is moral. No one group can lay claim over what is and what isn't moral.
If a person or group finds themselves being left out or left behind where the current definition of morality falls then its because society itself has moved on and away from those previous definitions.
Is the wrong? Is that something to be lamented?
A better question is what would it take to keep moral standards from changing.
That would take the enforcement of those morals one wants to see upheld.
The only way that can happen is if punishment is used as means of enforcing that adherence. Muslim countries and their "Moral Police" for example.
In this country a policy like that is the antithesis of the freedom we enjoy and like to hold above the rest of the world.
Are you now the spokesman for most people?
