LtTE Overreactions

There are many people I respect on here, so it seems very odd to me when they go so off base with critiques on their own writings.

How do I discern what religion a person belongs? If a person says they are christian, I tend to believe them until there is enough evidence to show otherwise.

Obama has said, "I am a Christian. So, I have a deep faith. So I draw from the Christian faith."

I have no problem with the government redistributing some of my wealth to the needy.

However, I do have a problem with the government taking my money and redistributing to those who aren't needy, and even to wealthy corporations.

I don't think government takes care of the needy very efficiently. We should do it ourselves instead of leaving it to the government.

Well, to be fair..my comment was responding to the guy from Belpre who implied Obama leans on Islamic beliefs.

But, Obama does refer to his Christian faith before. In the end, there is so muc more evidence that Obama is more christian than muslim. There is no way around that.

"In our household the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology."

And what of it? I have the Bible, Torah, Greek Mythology, Fantasy, Albert Camus and other various books sharing space on my shelves but I'm a Christian.

I am curious, what is the litmus test for being a Christian in your eyes?

Or is there any way to tell? If not...why do people care if a person is christian or muslim? They wouldn't be able to prove it any way.

Some people were even punished by not giving all they had to the cause. Most of us wouldn't think it is bad to keep something from the sale of a possession right? After all, it was yours and the money you get from its sale is yours right? However, Ananias and Sapphira did get punished, though it could be argued that they got punished for lying about how much they sold it for.

"he did not say it should be taken from them by the Roman Spear."

No he didn't but why would he? Jesus and Christianity stood apart from the official govt. However, the concept of the Church stood in the place of a govt entity in some cases. In the 4th chapter of Acts it is clear that members of the faith gave all they had to have the wealth redistributed among the other members.

As I said in my letter, I am not saying that the Bible is pro-socialism because socialism didn't exist as a concept then. But socialistic idea like distribution of wealth did exist.

"leads you to call him a follower of Jesus Christ."

More a follower of Christ than that of Mohammed, wouldn't you agree?

"It shows your character when you defend lies and socialism."

I have defended no lies and I have defended socialism no more than I have capitalism.

"Socialism and obama loving Kendall, it is a VERY BIG deal when the president lies to the people."

I do not love socialism or Obama beyond how a christian should love one another. I agree that it's a big deal when any President lies. Whether it's WMDs, Monicas or Health Care issues.

"President of the United States, commander and chief and follower of Jesus Christ Barack Obama???????????? Just curious Kendall, what proof do you have of this statement>?"

Well...he was voted by the majority of the voting public..so he is the President. Being President instantly makes him the Commander and Chief. His years in a christian church supports him being christian much more than him relying on Islam as the person from Belpre seems to believe.

Harry, the WV republican, is making a fool of himself again.

Harry, our government does not ASK us to give. They order us to redistribute our own monety.

Yep, they're desperate Tiredofit. It must be awful to be on the side of lies and corruption.

Eventually the Empire did fall. Due to placating the citizens and the use of foreigners to do the work. Much the same direction this country is headed with half the population dependent upon government payments of some sort, either deserved or not.

Random21,

I don't understand what you mean. It sounds as though you're saying that, if we pay our taxes, the government (Caesar) will fall.

I'm sure you're not saying that. Would you be more clear?

Give to Caesar what is Caesar's. How did it turn out for Caesar? Et tu Harrius Unrealius?

In other words, are redistributing wealth, praying, and refraining from premarital relations and homosexuality to all be voluntary?

Posted 353 days ago.

harryanderson

“Wouldn't these leftys scream bloody murder if the Govt forced them to pray, go to church, outlawed premarital relations and homosexuality?”

They sure would. Are you equating wealth redistribution with praying, church, and outlawing premarital relations and homosexuality?

I guess I'll quote Ithink here: "I will say what I want."

harryanderson

And again, Ithink, if “Jesus taught us to be volunterally charitable,” and we are responding to Jesus’ teaching, why should we be angry when the government also asks us to be charitable?

Posted 353 days ago.

harryanderson

Ithink,

You write, “Jesus taught us to be volunterally charitable.”

If you look up the Greek word that the Bible translates as charity, or agape, you will find that charity means love and goodwill with no expectation of return.
