...when the Democrats try to make not working pay, while the Republicans try to make working not pay.
There was a time when one income fed housed and planned for a day to retire, now 3 incomes in 1 home still does keep a roof overhead and kids out bof food insecurity, and retire, you can do that when your dead, aaaw corporate , conservative, govt. Your grandpa,s potus(ike), warned you about.?......
There's a new kid in town, or at least Herman has a new name. He also just discovered copy and paste.
De nada, tiredofit.
Tiredofit said- "I'll bet every one of these socialist libs in here broke one or more of these rules and now want something from those who didn't " Do you click your heels when you stand up? Have you never heard that perfectionism is fatalistic ?
And here you are tiredofit spitting out that SOCIALIST LIB venom of yours. LOL! Wasn't you who decried the use of the word "denier"?
I believe so.
Dont like being mislabeled but are more than willing to do so to others.
Yea all that gas and oil expansion going on is a good thing but its got its negatives too.
Like for instance what has happen in a lot of areas that have seen oil production take off. Say you live in an apartment building in your hometown that you've been in since birth. Along comes the oil field workers who need housing. Their companies buy up all the available housing. The very building you are in and evict you. Guess you'll go somewhere else in town to stay but you cant because the rent is so high from demand so you have to move away from home.
Also lets not ignore the environmental issues these companies put on the table and dont have the testicles to deal HONESTLY with the problems they cause.
Just look at the tar sands oil spill in Arkansas. Already trying to cover it all up and take no responsibility.
While I agree that minimum wage standards can hinder employment for a small segment of society and they do add to the cost as discussed below, I have little doubt that were they abolished in this day and age, there would be companies that abuse employees by paying them a low wage. It can be argued that supply and demand would set the wage but I’m not so sure that would happen.
Saying that, In this day and age, if one is willing to work, shows up on time, is dependable is willing to seek out and participate in ongoing educational opportunities, they will make more than minimum wage regardless of the industry they are in.
It is my opinion that the minimum wage along with coming off of the gold standard which kept the brakes on money creation. Has put us squarely in the middle brown nugget pond without a means of locomotion back to shore!
I gotta throw this question out there. Does having a minimum wage actually do anything? Seems to me that when the minimum wage goes up everything goes up along with it. Thats why nowadays when I want to read me some Batman I gotta flop down 3.99 rather than say 66 cents!
Back in the day a candy bar used to be what a nickle? Now its a buck in most cases.
So where has that minimum wage got us?
That last sentence should read, "I don’t like the current system, in which profits rise greatly and non-workers get more and more benefits, but wages of honest workers stay about the same."
I admit to bias here. I'm biased in favor of people who aren't afraid of honest work and would prefer to earn their own way.
I want such people to have a better deal. I don’t like the current system, in which profits rise greatly and non-workers get more and more benefits, wages of honest workers stay about the same.
“Hence fewer jobs, and everyone pays a higher price.”
Do you have any evidence that fewer jobs overall would result? Wouldn’t the increased spending by the workers generate more economic activity and more jobs?
There is currently redistribution from the taxpayer to the consumer.
I'd like to see government benefits cut and wages increased.
Under the current system, where many low-wage employees rely on government benefits, the so-called rich taxpayer subsidizes these jobs. I say the consumers of the goods and services these employees produce should pick up the tab.
And if there is no demand, maybe there should be no supply.
"Harry, raising the minimum wage only increases unemployment and raises prices."
Every time I get a raise, it puts money at my disposal.
My initial post wasn't literally accurate. Sorry. I should rephrase it to, "Democrats try to make not working pay more and Republicans try to make working pay less."
When Republicans work to keep the minimum wage down, they are trying to make work pay less. Meanwhile, Democrats work to raise unemployment benefits. The two policies, in effect, provide financial incentive for not working.
How are Republicans making working not pay Harry?
