Thankfully, the anti-science propaganda campaign surrounding man-made climate change seems to have lost some of its effect.

Are you seeing storm clouds on the horizon? Two recent studies suggest that the latest anti-science campaign is following its forerunners--the propaganda campaigns attempting to refute science that tobacco causes cancer, that CFC's caused the hole in the ozone layer, and so on—into oblivion. Global warming denial seems to have climbed to a peak in 2010, and global warming acceptance is now climbing. This bodes well for rational public policy.

The findings divide Americans into six distinct subsets. Sixteen percent are "alarmed," sure global warming is happening and concerned about it. On the opposite end of the spectrum are the "dismissive," who comprise about 15 percent of the public and who almost all see global warming as a conspiracy theory or hoax. Changing either of these two groups' opinions about climate change is nearly impossible, Leiserowitz said. AINT IT SO.

"Media coverage surrounding the release of the IPCC report in September may be the explanation for the shift of more previously uncertain people into disbelieving climate change, Leiserowitz told LiveScience. While the report made a strong case for human-caused climate change, most media coverage focused on the question of whether there has been a "pause" in global warming.

In fact, some research does show a slowdown in how fast temperatures are rising, if not a pause. Scientists theorize the slowdown could be the result of decades-long climate cycles playing out against a background of long-term warming. But a study published online in November 2013 in the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society suggests that even that slowdown may be an illusion, caused by gaps in temperature data.

Nevertheless, the media framing of the story may have contributed to more doubt among those who were not firm in their convictions, Leiserowitz said."

Its a shame we can't basically extract co2 to reduce global co2 levels but also essentially use the co2 as a feedstock for new energy production.

We can in a sense but not on a quick timescale. I am talking about direct processing into a fuel by a simple means.

But maybe someday a new technology will be developed that will do that.

Mythravere, some are already working on removing atmospheric carbon, despite the obstacles set up by the counter climate change movement.

“Klaus Lackner, a Columbia University geophysicist, is working on synthetic trees that absorb carbon dioxide about a thousand times faster than natural trees. Keith's Calgary-based start-up, Carbon Engineering, funded partly by Bill Gates, is developing industrial-scale technologies to capture carbon from the atmosphere and use it to produce low-carbon transportation fuels.”

ww w.usatoday.co m/story/news/nation/2013/12/30/climate-change-technologies/4041931/

And another company, Newlight Technologies, is already turning methane emissions from dairy farms into plastic that will soon appear in chairs.

So we’re working to solve this engineering problem.

Also for the record Dr Spencer is involved in several conservative think tanks.

Now I don't know but maybe he can have an unbiased opinion. But is he capable of forming opinions that would be counter to what is acceptable in conservative circles?

To put it as has been done in the past by some conservative figures.

I dont know that he can.

"The lack of maturity is when one chooses to compare someone who doesn't believe as they do to a holocaust denier"

Say? How many times have people who don't believe as you do been labeled a socialist et al? Hmm Tiredofit?

Oh yea I don't know if anyone has heard about this but its worth a look.

Guess whats being talked about now?

CDR. Carbon Dioxide Removal!

So not only will use of fossil fuels have to drop by 70 some percent in the next century but they are talking about*****co2 out of the air now.

Atmospheric processor anyone ala the second Aliens movie?

I always joked that if the powers that be could charge us for the air we breath they would....looks like that could happen.

" If mankind isn't causing climate change through our use of fossil fuels, then there is nothing we can do about it."

If thats the case then we need to stop arguing and figure out how we are going to adapt.

One bad season in the worlds bread belts could be a global killer.

Goodness you are one of those types that would claim a person pulled a knife on you when all they did was cross their eyes at you!

@Harry, "I’ve never compared you to a holocaust denier"

I've never compared Tired to one either, just compared his tactics as a denier to another type of well known denier. It would be nice to see him actually answer the question but he'll probably make up some reason not to answer you too.

Oh yea I did that once. Couples of times?

Hey tiredofit as part of a therapeutic maybe you should stretch on some silly putty instead of the truth?

OH for the love of all that is holy.

"The phrase holocaust denier and witch burner has been tossed at me a couple of times. "

WOW! This is hilarious. You can't even cite comments made toward you in a factual way.

It was I who said that.

As to the holocaust denier claim. I did not call you a holocaust denier. I compared your mentality with those that ALLOWED the holocaust to happen.

I also COMPARED your MENTALITY to the mentality of those that burned supposed witches at the stake.

Jesus H Christ!

1/15/14 Tiredofit, I’ve never compared you to a holocaust denier, but I’d like to know, too. Do you agree with the following?

1. "We all agree that temperature has increased since 1800."

2. "We all agree that CO2 is a greenhouse gas."

3. "there’s hardly anyone serious who says that man has no role. And in many ways, those have never been the questions. The questions have always been, as they ought to be in science, how much?"

"The lack of maturity is when one chooses to compare someone who doesn't believe as they do to a holocaust denier."

Would you be offended if I compared your tactics to a Armenian Holocaust denier?

Oh, I don't need or desire your respect. I simply asked for you to give a simple yes or no response but you seem quite cowardly to give one.

As for Dr. Spencer, I like his approach to all this. He has his educated opinion on the topic yet seems to advocate that everyone should keep an open mind as well. To get a better understanding of climate change, we need more data than we currently have. That's good science in any case.

The end result is roughly the same. If mankind isn't causing climate change through our use of fossil fuels, then there is nothing we can do about it.

If mankind is effecting the climate through our use, then it makes sense to develop newer and cleaner forms of energy. It doesn't hurt us to do this in a responsible manner. Sometimes I think their are those that are simply afriad that some govt organization is simply going to turn everything off which is a chicken little kind of fear.

The lack of maturity is when one chooses to compare someone who doesn't believe as they do to a holocaust denier. That shows a complete lack of ethics and credibility. It also identifies one as a person I have no respect for and feel no need to answer questions posed by them.

“You will see this break down on party lines pretty quickly…”

A not so clever way of dismissing any opposition. Too bad it doesn't work since I am a Moderate Conservative and not Liberal.

Very mature Tired, keep it up. Oh, in case you forgot, do you agree with the following:

1. "We all agree that temperature has increased since 1800."

2. "We all agree that CO2 is a greenhouse gas."

3. "there’s hardly anyone serious who says that man has no role. And in many ways, those have never been the questions. The questions have always been, as they ought to be in science, how much?"
