I would recommend you study the two and what our founding fathers stated Neil. If you do, you will see that during the Philadelphia Convention, Madison, and company argued against a Bill of Rights. They believed such rights did not need to be granted by government because they were inalienable rights granted by the creator. That’s why it took NY demanding a Bill of Rights before the FF promised one. The second of those inalienable rights was the right to keep and bear arms.

The right to vote on the other hand was never guaranteed. In fact, when Thomas Paine tried to vote in 1806, he was denied despite the fact he was a founding father. While subsequent Amendments have ensured that voting cannot be denied due to race, religion, ability to pay a tax or gender but nothing guarantees the right to vote. As was the case in the 18th Century the voting right is still left to individual states.

Wingnuts say that they "respect" The Constitution, but 99% of them don't even know what is contained in The Articles (i.e. the supremacy-clause, commerce-clause, judicial-review). The only Amendments they seem to like are the Second and Tenth! I recommend some remedial Civics for those who proclaim that having an arsenal full of combat-weapons is a "sacred, God-given right", but think that the right-to-vote is a "racial entitlement"!

Raising the minimum wage wont do a darn thing. Everyone here knows that when it goes up the prices for everything else follows.

And for people like me if it does go to 9 and there is no adjustment made to my hourly pay rate its essentially making me have less take home pay.

I have experienced several adjustments in the past and I hope I will be lucky and see it happen again if the minimum wage goes up.

I wish there was a viable party to get the current crop of losers in the government out of our hair. But alas the only real opposition decided to lobotomize itself.

Thats where I feel the education system needs to be overhauled with civics classes that instill that in kids.

But the overhauling of the education system is a very complex subject.

Certain areas in this country tend to produce a lot of dependent people who have little to no education.

Bolo there is more than one type of taker. Both sides have them. And both can be a detriment to this nation.

But as for the takers you refer to I can agree that too many of them is bad. But if you want to shift the people in this country away from that you have to deliver the message in manner that doesn't cut people down.

If you attack a person's worth they wont listen.

People should be empowered to better themselves for their own good and this nations good.

You do that by making it so that people that really need assistance can get it. But you also need the system set up so that those who dont need it dont receive it.

The hard part is instilling personal responsibility in each person to go out and better themselves for the reasons I already mentioned. And if someone wont do that then they cant be helped.

Sorry but given my families origins I cant say much on illegal immigration. Open borders allowed this country to be founded. If you are Caucasian who's bloodline goes back a long time then you most certainly came here uninvited.

Again, I quote, “…in case of a deliberate, palpable, and dangerous exercise of power not delegated,…” Calhoun clearly intended to limit the states’ rights to what he called “interposition,” and what fellow South Carolinians Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms later called “states’ rights.”

Let’s get to the real question we need to settle: what Federal acts can be construed as “deliberate, palpable, and dangerous”?

Incidentally, I wasn’t advocating Calhoun’s viewpoint. I meant only to point out that his arguments predate and are far superior to Ayn Rand’s.

It seems from my point of view that there are quite a few people who would willingly impose their beliefs on people. The Constitution is held up as a holy relic by some. But those same people who congregate in states to the south of us I feel would change whole swaths of the Constitution to better fit their ideology.

How can a nation remain as one when actions such as that would fracture our national being?

Harry I ask this in all honesty. What is the point of the federal government if the states can do as they wish?

An example pertinent to me is this: What in that case is to stop a state contrary to the Constitution from making Christianity the state religion and instituting a purge of everyone that will not adhere to the will of that state?
