Okay, gun fetish folks, tell those 20 dead elementary school children at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, CT. why you think everyone should be packing firearms!

Yeah, IThink, Stickhauler, Rockman1, Kunect, and all the NRA stooges out there, tell us why it's all the "fault" of President Obama and all the "nasty liberals" who want some civilized controls over the unlimited possession and use of firearms in this crazy country! Make my day! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

12*174,000 equals what Skippy. The article I wrote stated that was the purchase but there seems to be some confusion. Seems the request for quote was amended AFTER the blog was posted from monthly to a 1 time purchase.

Even at that, why does SSA need to purchase 174,000 rounds?

And I can't help but not Scooter that you failed to address the purchase by DHS.

Why?

Don't you know?

Come on Scooter, you can do better than that.

you do understand that both have armed members. It says as much in the link, wouldn't 176.000 be a lot less than your 21 million rounds?

Nice scare tactic, but just not true. THAT'S why I posted the link.

Nice of you to quote the "claim", but not the debunking.

From your site Skippy...

“Claim: The Social Security Administration (SSA) and The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are buying arms as preparation for civil unrest.”

I’m curious Skippy, why did you post a link debunking a claim no one has made. The question I put forth that you seemed unable (surprise) to comprehend was why are DHS and SSA buying ammunition?

From your link…

“Mixture”

“True: THE SSA issued a Request for quote for 174,000 rounds of hollow point bullets.”

Why does the SSA need ammunition Scooter? You go an answer for that?

“Partially True:” “The DHS issued requests for quotes for hundreds of millions of rounds of ammunition.”

Why does Homeland Security need enough ammunition to fight the Iraq War for 24 years Scooter? You got answers or are you going to post a link to another claim no one is making?

DHS has enough bullets to fight the Iraq War for almost 30 years which is a ton given our troops fired ~70 million rounds a year. Reckon there's a reason they need that many bullets?

I wonder if the reasons as good as the one the Social Security Administration has for a recent 21 million round purchase?

I hear what you are saying tiredofit but there is something that you have to take in consideration.

The powers that be can and will use what was used against smokers against gun owners. You know the whole changing its social acceptance.

But at some point I can see gun ownership carrying a terrorist connotation.

Manipulation of the social sphere is how its done.

" that which can be found will be formulated to have a very short shelf life."

Thats an interesting angle. Pardon how I put this but can the old timers here tell me something.

I have heard that gas used to last longer in storage than it does now. Is that true?

And of course it will be for the children, and common sense safety.

Remember, gun cotrol is about CONTROL not guns

Tiredofit

I have said for years that at some point they would control ammunition and give up on guns due to a lack of successes. Furthermore, there will come a day soon when ammo, that which can be found will be formulated to have a very short shelf life.

Random - I don't (really) care who legally buys what. There's a Nutball over at the Marietta Times Forums, named "Munster" that doesn't think the American public should be allowed to own any SEMI-automatic AR-15s or AK-47s. He's a Liberal waterhauler with "oneill" (the author of this particular thread) and I love to 'wind-their-watches'.

REMEMBER GUYS! "Munster", Fred Oneill and Dianne Frankenstein (D-CA) doesn't want you to BE ALLOWED to own certain guns.

The ammo shortage is not a conspiracy

Google that^

Taken with a grain of salt it still makes sense.

If thats the case I am sure as heck glad I never gave in to the urge to buy a Walther P22. My thinking was it'd be cheap to shoot.

Ha! No such luck.

"Why does the Department of Homeland Security need to purchase 9 out of every 10 rounds of 22LR produced?"

I have no idea but would be interested in knowing. I thought they were just buying up the ammo types they use.

Maybe they are trying to corner the market and introduce ammo control instead of gun control.

That is something that needs to be looked at.

And yes I have guns. I got into shooting for awhile but then got bored with it.

Modern firearms dont interest me nearly as much as the old smoke poles. Which I have none of.

"When you got guys going in every single day and buying the max on multiple types of ammo just for a profit....then you guys complain about the government buying up ammo."

Why does the Department of Homeland Security need to puchase 9 out of every 10 rounds of 22LR produced?

Oh well its got potential bright lining to it all. If the scare subsides and prices head to the pits...whew wee there is gonna be a bunch of ammo and guns out there ripe for the taking.

Then again probably not.

I bet the folks that work at the ammo and gun plants are either happy for the extra work or praying for it to end.

Ammo shortage? You'll have that when gun enthusiasts are so easily spooked.

It makes me laugh though the profiteering going on.

When you got guys going in every single day and buying the max on multiple types of ammo just for a profit....then you guys complain about the government buying up ammo. Which you then poo poo that but then turn around and talk up defending this nation against terrorism and such.

Our government being the entity that WE THE PEOPLE put forth to defend us kinda sorta needs to be well armed and well trained. That takes a buttload of ammo to achieve that goal.

But not a word on the profiteering?

Its not good that there is an ammo supply crunch but why complain about it and then go out and buy more up making the situation worse?

RANDOM21

Walked into Vienna Wal-Mart last week and there "were" ten boxes of 5.56 on the shelf at semi-reasonable price. Limit 3. It's hopefully starting to get back to dealers but the price is still way up. 22LR is still non existent. Wish I had bought some in November and sold enough at gun shows to get my money back and had a few thousand rounds to shoot for free. Oh, well, another bubble missed.

BTW - Colt and Bushmaster AR-15's (one of each) available at South Parkersburg, WV Walmart tonight.
